Lycan
Humanoid Race of Genivan
Introduction:
They are Saharians who have been cursed, they are werewolves but cannot shape-shift back into human form ever, unless the curse is broken in the rare cases of a Zarythian, a Jondorian Bane using their racial sacrificial magic, this is the only way to reverse the curse. They tend to be fairly tall, 5’8” to 6’3” and do not retain the height of when they were a Saharian human. They are faster than Eons on land, slow sloppy swimmers and moderate climbers. They climb trees better than rocks or cliffs. They have dark brown eyes with large pupils which make their eyes appear almost black, their daytime vision is akin to that of Taloreans but their nighttime vision is like Sordeans. They are moderately strong, roughly the strength of Azurians, stronger than Taloreans but way weaker than Zarythians or Eons with moderate endurance.
Language
They have a twisted form of human speech that is guttural and hard to understand. In the beginning, most of the Saharians tribes tried to make peace with them but Lycans loath all Saharians. Lycan refuse to speak with any Saharian, ever. Even if they are caught, they will mutilate themselves so they can never speak, that is how much they loath Saharians. Lycan retain aspects of Saharian language but during the time the curse morphs their body their vocal chords change and their voices become guttural, low toned and raspy. They have a very clipped language with simple words, essentially their vocabulary is very small, they rarely try to describe something complex. Within a few years they forget their old lives and can only mate with another Lycan but strangely they instinctively know Saharians on sight and hate them for the curse they received. It is not often a Saharian is cursed, the metamorphosis takes several weeks to complete and during that time there is no reversal with the exception of a Jondorian Bane intervening.Diet & Immune System
They eat mostly meat but will supplement their diet with roots and local herbs but fruit makes them ill. They have 1-3 children with a bit higher fertility age that makes their population growth slower, their wounds tend to heal more quickly than normal Saharians but not as fast as Eons and their immune systems are like Gideans; rotten food will also not harm them. They can be poisoned but they can go weeks without food or water. They retain no magic or any skills from the Saharian tribe they came from, so their immunity is unique to their race.Weapons
They use obsidian weapons as no race aside from Taloreans can forge with metal so they make due with obsidian which is plentiful across Genivan. Obsidian is sharp but fairly brittle, they are not brute force warriors but more like stealth fighters using their speed to quickly stab or slice their enemies. They carve backwards hooks into their shorter blades (little longer than daggers) so if the blade breaks and the Saharian tries to remove it the ‘hook’ will cause additional damage. Their longer weapons are smooth, very sharp and straight because if they added hooks it would cause the blade to snag on armor or bone and shatter. They wish to cause as much damage as possible with their brittle weapons and have adapted their fighting style and weapons in this way.Lycan Blood Rules All
Lycan are unaware that other Lycan Clans exist and if they did they would form one giant alliance, Lycan are incredibly interconnected within their Clans, Lycan blood, Lycan family means everything to them. They almost never have rivalries and work extremely well together. Unlike Minotaurs and Naga who will fight their own kind, Naga hate other Broods (other lineages from their matriarch leader) and Minotaurs are warlike with everyone including each other. Naga Broods will kill their own Brood members but Lycan would never willing harm one of their own. Lycan blood rules all, that is all that matters to them and the death of Saharians.
Familiar Bond
Lycan can instinctually sense if a Saharian has been cursed and will ‘recognize’ them as one of their own kind. Since the major metamorphisis signs of the curse can take weeks to manifest, Lycan know the moment the curse is used and when fighting Saharians they will avoid harming the one cursed and even try to cut them off from other Saharians in battle to take them away to their Clan’s home. They are incredibly compassionate to a Saharian during the metamorphosis if the Lycan are lucky enough to find the one cursed before they change, most will die in the wilds before they come within range of being able to sense other Lycans (about ten miles). Lycan females will care and feed them like they were children or babies, even softly restraining the Saharian cursed until the metamorphis is complete so they cannot harm themselves accidentally. The Curse
When Saharians find one of their own who has been cursed and the metamorphis has began they are caged or shackled and sent to known areas where Lycan inhabit. Most want to kill the ones cursed but the family members of the cursed Saharian will pay huge sums to have them caged or shackled and removed far from their lands (half the time the mob will rule and just outright kill the cursed one).
Echolocation
Since Lycan tend to be more stealth type fighters, using the night and shadows very effectively they do not use sounds to communicate but echolocation that only Naga can hear, no other beast, human or humanoid race can hear which makes Lycan incredibly dangerous. This echolocation can be heard up to ten miles away and so Lycan can coordinate and communicate in quite large areas; they can also control the distance at which they communicate. It is also a way they try to use to find a recently metamorphed Lycan to guide them to the Clan.

Ahoy there! How are you finding the Summercamp event this year? You've put a lot of work into this article, I like how you used the side bar on the right for more information. The echolocation seems like a very dangerous tool! I wonder why the Lycan hate the Saharians so much, especially as they were previously Saharian? Do the Saharians actively hunt them down? I might have missed it too, but I am curious on how they become cursed, and what this curse actually is! I feel like you had a lot of fun writing this article, and I hope later on you'll continue to expand on your Lycans and their clans!
Hi! Thank you for reading this article! I like the summer camp so far, I just joined this website a week ago and so still navigating everything. Thank you so much! I definitely wanted the information spread across the available features on an article and I appreciate the comment on that, I was hoping that was okay to do and not too jarring to read. Yes, echolocation is neat but dangerous communication tool unique to Lycan :) I realized I didn’t really explain it too well about the curse. Saharians believe that whomever made the curse (many suspect it was a Talorean Amber Siren, a unique magical ability to combine organic and inorganic compounds into elixirs and potions) that what was in the curse added in vestiges of an in-balance of chemicals causing extreme fear, hate and depression. Though this theory remains untested, but that is their explanation for why Lycan hate all Saharians, since peace was unable to be made, most have quit searching for a solution and just hunt the Lycan to eradicate them. Yes, for the most part the Lycan are hunted down but not all that frequently as most of the lands, Azurians, Eons, Taloreans and Sordeans have other enemies to contend with and so the absolute eradication of Lycan will never occur. I definitely plan to add more! Since I just joined, I am still inputting loads of information that I have in 50+ pages of a word document. I have not fully figured out how the curse is applied but I will soon! Thank you so much! Strangely, writing about the enemies of Genivan was my favorite articles so far, breaking common tropes since I used common groups like Lycan, Giants, Minotaurs and Naga. I’ve yet to write the Minotaur article, but I have written the Giant and Naga one if you’re interested! Thank you again! I hope you continue to give me feedback! This was really good for me, as I know what I didn’t cover and what needs to be explained better.
Ah! You joined at a great time then! I find WorldAnvil is extra fun when there's event going on. Have you joined the community Discord yet? Aye, I didn't find it jarring to read at all. Thank you for sharing more about your world, I look forward to seeing an update on your article in the future. I hope you find it fulfilling to fill out your world on WorldAnvil - its so much easier than a 50+ page document! I'll follow your world, so if you send a notification on an article you think is particularly great - I'll try and take a look if I can :) All the best!
I realized I did, at first I had no idea what the summer camp was as I was inputting info in for a book I am working, once I became stuck on a plot line I figured I would add this world of Genivan. I have joined discord, so glad I did as it's a wonderful community! Most welcome and thank you for the feedback! I will have to watch a video or ask in discord how to notify followers haha I am unsure of all the features, but once I figure it out I will definietly do that. Thank you so much!
