Blackrock Saurian

Blackrock Saurian is a language used by some saurians in the region of Blackrock.   Descended from Old Blackrock, spoken during the dracates, it since merged the pharyngeal consonants into the plain consonants, however, they are still phonologically distinguished from their plain counterparts, as in non-terminal positions, the vowel following the previously pharyngealised consonant will be fronted and glottalised (creaky voice), as in /a/ to /æ̰/ or /ə/ to /ḛ/. In final positions, most accents retract alveolar consonants except for /ɾ/, except in cases where it was previously pharyngealised. As /ɽ/ is still maintained as the fortis rhotic consonant, final /kˤ/ is the only case in which the distinction has been lost. The pharyngeal ejective, /ʡʼ/, became something like a uvular ejective, /qʼ/.   In terms of vocabulary, it took in a large number of loanwords, primarily from Then, but also from languages like Bodyund and Tourghesh. Many of these loans went so far as to displace native words.   The grammar, which in Old Blackrock had been highly inflected, became much more analytic.

¹While not strictly a uvular ejective, as saurians lack uvulae, the place or articulation is between velar and pharyngeal.
