Classical Varani
Classical Varani is a cultured, conservative Dvekmenic language used originally by the Varani for administrative and academic purposes. It isn't used as a spoken language anymore. Pronunciation is usually done according to the pronunciation rules of either Vreziy or the local Dvekmenic language.
Ald Duekmen had already spent several centuries diverging into the Dvekmenic languages by the time of the Varani Empire, but the Varani revived it for use as a lingua franca as what has become known as Classical Varani. This re-unification did not stop the development of local Dvekmenic languages, but is thought to have slowed their divergence. With Classical Varani, the Margianic Alphabet was abandoned, and a new alphabet, the Varani alphabet, was used instead. The alphabet was originally created by Gadvyn Varani not long after the founding of House Varani, based heavily on the Tira Vellan alphabet, which Varani thought was more elegant and efficient than what he thought was a clumsier script in Margianic. This Varani script was spread throughout Sossis, and by the end of the Varani Empire, the Margianic alphabet had been almost entirely replaced. Today, the Varani alphabet remains in use to write a variety of languages, though its use has declined since its peak with several major languages switching to the Vallaran alphabet over the past several centuries, largely for religious reasons.
