Old South Skorbund†

Old Skorbund began to separate after the Varani reconquered Kostovia and parts of Ros, essentially driving a wedge between Skorbund populations. While they were a sea-faring people, this bloc between them seems to still have been enough to isolate the people and drive their languages apart.   Old South Skorbund inscriptions were written overwhelmingly in the "short twig" Futhark: ᚠ ᚢ ᚦ ᚭ ᚱ ᚴ ᚽ ᚿ ᛁ ᛆ ᛌ ᛐ ᛓ ᛙ ᛚ ᛧ. This is in contrast to Old North Skorbund, which showed a preference for the "long branch" set, but still wrote some inscriptions in the "short twig" set.   Today South Skorbund lives on only in the small language of Volkjen. The region of the world where South Skorbund was spoken was more hospitable and arable than that inhabited by the North Skorbunds, and so while the North Skorbunds could largely avoid the influence of the Dvekmenic neighbours, those in the south largely integrated into Dvekmenic societies over the centuries.
