General Summary

Miles sends a messenger to Salley on the group’s behalf the following day, While Adrie is performing services at the Temple of the Ennead, Tauflin is digs up information on Saltmarsh’s trade routes. He discovers that they are largely under Crugg’s control, and that cheaper prices goods appear in its main export markets around the time when the town’s seal vanishes, so he concludes that Crugg is likely the aggrieved party in the smuggling scheme. Later in the day, Aster receives Salley’s response (addressed to “the elves”), with a request for a meeting on board the Skylark an hour after dusk. At the appointed time, the group meets him and his gang of ruffians. A peace deal is struck, where Salley offers the group money in exchange for dropping their investigation, and not contesting Tauflin’s ownership of the Helmont House. As a gesture of good will, Adrie turns over the stack of letters to Salley as she leaves. Later, at the Scale and Tail, the group celebrates the successful conclusion of the meeting, but Tauflin and Aster contend that Adrie has made a mistake in turning over the letters. Brandon proposes to forge other versions, but Adrie prepares to raid Salley’s mansion to retrieve them, and Aster has to talk her out of it. A messenger from Salley arrives soon after, inviting the group to his estate. The next day, they meet Salley in the company of the Voracious Warrior, and he offers them a business opportunity – in exchange for paying them 365 shillings and undertaking to fix up the house, the smuggling operation will resume out of the Helmont House, since Tauflin has no plans to live there. The party agrees, though after departing, Adrie makes plans to reveal details of the deal to the Town Council just before the group leaves town (possibly to Avandra, possibly to investigate Hool Marsh.
