Impossible Sea
1000 years ago the people of the main continent were seeded by the gods, they spread all over the first continent, with some descending the NeoCap Cliff for the first time. They found the gems of Lower Minespa and were suddenly rich enough to expand rapidly. Dwarves settled in Kun Badur , Elves settled in the Hondalar Woods , and the humans went on to the coast and built Athlaca.
The Gromican Gods are punished and flung into the mortal world. Athlaca gives them and home and the humans are punished by the other pantheons of gods to become the first Animalians .
Dr. Mandibarch helped build Athlaca with his wife Eiryka and then took a group into the impossible Sea after they separated (he's kinda a bad dude)
For 1000 years they did not return, so the Impossible Sea got its name and it was just assumed that it was the edge of the world and that Pirate Island was the last point of civilization.
A group of player character left the Neocap during Yag Zhu 's Undead Invasion , in order to find a weapon of pure light they heard about in Athlaca. It was a piece of Sun Metal from the Lizards of the Valley of the Sun , but only a fragment. When they did scrying on the metal, it pointed them into the sea. The first people to cross the Impossible Sea in game was only about 3 years ago.
The players barely escaped the trip with their lives, defeating an immense clockwork Kraken. The Kraken was built by Mandibarch to keep people from following him. The Impossible Sea was open for those that wanted to spend three weeks at sea.
In-game 1 year ago, an industrious group of Underplain Gnomes and another group of player characters built a series of magical boosting buoys that would allow for the construction of the three Teleporters.
The Swath and therefor Blasthaven that gave access from Capital City to the sea only was carved out 6 months ago at the battle of Castle Yag Zhu, then two of the Teleporters were destroyed, one in the Hungry Dark War, one in the Chon Daj War, which were right after each other in the timeline.
Now, for about 4 months, there have been regular shuttles by the crew of the Iron Booty between Blasthaven and Kithaern, and the shuttles by merchants and pirates from Kithaern to Athlaca.
