Èrintrel

Overlooking the steep Cliffs of Erintrel in the Western reach of the Sarendian Trust, the city of Èrintrel is the former capital of the Erintrene Republic. Currently, the city is undergoing a revitalization as it becomes the main processing hub of limestone for the region.

Demographics

The majority of the city is inhabited by Feloran Elves of the Grayàv'ya community, with the next largest group being half-elves, who were 2% of the city's population in the last census and declining as more sought opportunity in the half-elf governed Dotharan Alliance. 17,843 people live in the city, making it the only city in the Trust's western hinterlands to have more than 15,000. Most of the inhabitants are labourers involved in masonry or the manufacture of lime for Sorenian cement.

Government

The city is government by a council drawn from members of the various guilds operating in the city, generally the Local Guildmaster. It's current makeup consists of the Mining Guild, the Stonemason Guild, and the Limeburner's Guild. The first two guilds also have representation on the Trust Council, while the Limeburner's Guild is too small in membership. Furthermore, there are other Guilds not on the council but still wielding influence, as the Council relies on guild's loaning their enforcers to the Council for the purposes of a city watch.

Infrastructure

The city has access to the Western Canal, built as part of the Grand Feloran Canal but not as wide or as developed. In the modern era, numerous lime kilns have been constructed, as well as new roads to the mining towns scattered nearby. The city is built along an Early-Feloran street plan and follows Imperial-era urban planning.

History

It is one of the oldest still-inhabited cities of the former Feloran Empire, being founded in 1,000 of the Royal Era, predating the invention of lanteen rigging and contact with humans by approximately 3,000 years. The arrival of Cyrenican and Indharan dwarves brought with it new quarry and mining techniques, allowing for more thorough extraction of existing limestone deposits and leading to the discovery of new ones by various expeditions by the Dwarven-dominated Mining Guilds. Since then, the elves of Èrintrel have turned the city into the center of limestone processing for western Sarendia.

Architecture

Much of the city is built from limestone, which dominates the Cliffs of Èrintrel. The city's homes are varied, though many Del'ya furnish their exteriors with quality examples of their craft, fine chairs and other furniture.

Natural Resources

Though the city sits upon iconic limestone cliffs, none of it is able to be extracted without seriously endangering the city structure. Nonetheless, the city has access to the Yulan Ocean, which provides numerous resources of fish and aquatic plants to sustain the hunger needs of the settlement.
