Jùrn kèn sheìya (/dʒʊɹn ʃeˈɪjə/)

Jùrn kèn sheìya is a type of Feloran rice dish, prepared yearly as part of the Festival of Renewal in the Ëlhyaean tradition. It is made from Sorenian short grain rice, and contains herbs and spices of renewal - such as ginger, lemongrass, and mint. Its consumption is believed to strengthen one's internal spirit against the cosmological forces that seek to bend it to their own will and whim.

History

Lèlbrìkèrn Vesàris Omèrku first codified the festival in his Èlbrìles on community practice for ensuring robust spiritual health among a settlement's people. He identified a recipe of 3 herbs, 3 spices, rice, and a newly-invented paste made from an Ekoran soybean via a Feloran process of boiling and crushing it into a paste known as tofu. Coastal communities in Ekora and Dothara often replace the tofu with local seafood. Meat of land creatures is not permitted in the meal, even in practitioners that don't follow the Èlbrìles on the Consumption of the Mortal Flesh.

Execution

The eldest of the community is served first, although in some communities it is customary for the Shrine Custodian and their cooking crew to "sample" the dish before assembling the others. Those who have not yet completed their Törn'kèu Ritual are served next. It is believed that by prioritising the most vulnerable among them, the community's collective and individual Yīra is renewed in its ongoing struggle against malicious spirits and demons

Observance

On the 40th day of the two traditional harvest months, Heïa and Letrel, the seniormost Shrine Custodian or Temple Head gathers the people of their community at the end of the work day, generally within 2 hours of sundown. During this day, in the lead up to the gathering, the Custodian, guiding the children of the community in the process, prepares the dish for serving at this gathering.
