Steward's Scepter
The Steward's Scepter is a potentially 10,000 year old artifact and is one of the two pieces of regalia for the Sorenian Sovereign. It's current holder is Sovereign Aranrata Kaelbryn. It is one of the oldest surviving artifacts still in formal or official use, although it's status as the original artifact has been called into dispute on more than one occasion. It is a magical item, imbued with ancient agricultural magic known as the "Steward's Blessing", allowing it to turn any dirt into fertile soil appropriate to it's local climate. According to myth, one who bears both the Scepter and sits on the throne is equally blessed and cursed.
Holding the Scepter, one can almost feel the weight of thousands of years in the staff. It has Emerald leaves and though at one point it may have been made of wood, it has since petrified leaving a stone-like texture and density. The leaves adorn the wood and coalesce into a blue gemstone at the top, signifying the rain and growth that the scepter can bring.
History
An age-worn relic crafted in a forgotten time before the Empire, not much is known about the Scepter's history from before the time of Prince Lucien at the end of the Forgotten Era. Prince Lucien Mirenelis, first Emperor of Felora, adopted the sceptre as a symbol of the throne of Tìl Lumora, while he adopted the crown of his native Tìl Soren. Upon his abdication, his daughter inherited both the Scepter and Crown. Over time, the symbol of the crown and position of the throne merged, while the Scepter remained a symbol of the Sovereign's Stewardship of the homeland, even through the Getninian Cataclysm.
The Scepter's association with the Feloran sovereign would be broken as part of the Je'thor Reformation in 2454 EIE. While both the bearer of the scepter and the holder of the throne would remain noble positions, the reformation split the Sovereign and the Steward, and the Scepter became the regalia of the Stewardship. This arrangement existed for roughly 4,000 years, when the increasingly unstable Maelyrra Court siezed the Scepter in 1750 LIE in a bid to strengthen the Sovereign's position and increase their authority as their grip on the provinces of the Northern Continent faltered. Currently, the Scepter (along with the Imperial Throne of Felora) are the symbols of office for the Sovereign of Soren.
Significance
The Scepters import to Feloran history is second only to the throne itself, with every Emperex of the Feloran People either holding it or paying homage to the noble who does. According to myth, the scepter is an ancient farming hoe, broken and imbued the blessing of the old God of Nature. Ëlhyaea recontextualised this to be a spirit of agriculture after Naezorwyn decreed the scepter purified from the actions of its past holders.
