Törn'kèu Ritual (tɔːɹnˈkɛu)

The Törn'kèu ritual is a Feloran and Dotharan coming of age rite, its name literally meaning to "become an adult". In Feloran societies, individuals are expected to spend their later "childhood" (between the ages of 20 and for half-elves, 70, for full-bloods 95, generally) discovering who they want to be and learning skills in order to make it happen. Generally, one will undertake the ritual no more than twice, as it's not a ritual to bind someone to a profession or other path in life, it is a declaration of one's personhood and core identity.

History

The ritual's origins are murky, with the earliest Imperial records already making note of the rituals of Crowned Princes and Princesses of sitting Emperors. Along with the Ëpàrìstèye kèn Àntrötrelis, it is one of the few widespread Feloran rituals without Ëlhyaean roots.

Execution

There is no prescribed physical ritual or required method of execution. The only formulaic aspects of the ritual are the "declaration of self", where the ritualist takes their chosen adult name and pronouns, and the "declaration of life", where the ritualists states their "three pillars": their goals, their talents, and their donàlìn'ya.

Participants

The attendance of the ritual can vary widely by specific community, status, and the individual's wishes. Some Törn'kèu Rituals are intimate affairs with the ritualist and a few close friends, others are elaborate state functions with invited dignitaries. In the Sovereignty of Soren, the ritual is shepherded by a Lëkabrì from the individual's regional temple, who formally bestows the name, pronouns, and donàlìn'ya. Elsewhere, sometimes a Shrine Custodian is present to assist in any Ëlhyaean practices the ritualist has chosen.
