Herders of Giants

The constant migration, the herding of giants, the thrill of the hunt, and the fear of being hunted - these are what define the Darfellans.

Darfellans are a race of orca-like humanoids who wander the world herding groups of whales and other sea creatures along their yearly journey. They're rarely ever seen by other species and have become a myth by most land dwellers.

The journey is not an easy one however, the sahuagin are constantly chasing after them for their own demonic purposes. This has dwindled their numbers down to the point that some darfellan pods think they're the only ones on the planet.

+2 Strength, +2 Constitution, +2 Wisdom, -2 Dexterity. Darfellans are physically imposing and are in touch with nature but their large frames prohibit some movement.

Darfellans are medium creatures and have no bonuses or penalties due to size.

Darfellans are humanoids with the darfellan subtype.

Base Speed

Darfellans have a base speed of 20 feet and a swim speed of 40 feet.

Echolocation: Darfellans have blindsense out to a range of 30 feet but only while they're underwater.
Hatred: Darfellans gain a +2 bonus on attack rolls against Sahuagin.
Hold Breath: Darfellans are capable of holding their breath for ten times longer than a human.
Low-Light Vision: Darfellans can see twice as far as humans in areas of dim light.

Ecology and Habitats

Darfellan commonly live on or near the ocean. They're torn between two worlds, while they can wholly survive on land, the sea calls to them but it's a place where they cannot stay.

Migrating darfellans often create enormous rafts to pull their entire pod along. These rafts are called Akoa.

Social Structure

Darfellans form pods of about 30 called an Ila. These Ila are lead by spiritual leaders known as Angakkuk. These Angakkuk are experienced sailors and herders that lead the new generation of Darfellan on their global migration. The Ila is also home to many warriors known as Talik. The Talik fight roaming sea monsters, and keep guard against sahuagin.

Darfellan are capable of using echolocation underwater similar to a dolphin or bat.

Body Tint, Colouring and Marking

Darfellan bodies are mostly hairless and sleek to be quick in the water. Their skin is a deep black with white spots on the head, belly, and legs.
