Personal history

Gwyneth Hemlock is a green hag who dwells in the center of the Hool Marshes. She has collected a gathering of henchmen, including goblins, and other marsh creatures. She has a loose partnership with the willowisps that lure unsuspecting travelers from their paths into the depths of the marshes.
She sometimes goes into Saltmarsh to trade for goods and information. She usually comes disguised as a late-middle-aged woman in brown comfy traveling robes, carrying a collection of herbal remedies. She works to build a strong reputation for her goods within the Saltmarsh community, but is intentionally infrequent in her visits and encourages customers to come out to the marshes themselves to get the freshest harvests and strongest ingredients.
She's usually forthright and honest about these ingredients, but keeps an eye on all marshland visitors. When she spots someone particularly beautiful or vulnerable, she will snatch them for her own nefarious purposes. Most of the time these unfortunate individuals are enslaved or eaten.
She is also a constant schemer. Sometimes a lost or wandering individual will get caught in a territorial fight with an animal or marshland creature and Gwynth will abruptly appear and rescue them. She will offer lodging and help, at a cost. She'll altruistically save someone she's lured into danger and use the resulting emotional leverage to her favor. Her curent scheme is to release a mild plague into Saltmarsh and gain respect and power by swooping in with an herbal cure.

Gwyneth Hemlock despises herself and her withered condition. She seeks out power, especially over those whom she views as more beautiful or prosperous. She spends time building up her own reality where she is valued, appreciated, and powerful. Unfortunately, her arrogance and gruff personality drives away others. She builds up a team of easily manipulated marsh creatures including goblins, harpys, kobolds, and Hag Thrall
