Hummingbird Ships

Under orders from King Scotti, the Keoland Navy has been building the kingdom's first airships, known as Hummingbirds, for the Hummingbird Brigade.

Discovery

King Scotti was frustrated by the inaccurate and outdated information his spies on land gathered from the Sea Princes. Continuing a string of publicly crippling military defeats due to outdated information, he demanded that his military advisor do something to provide a solution or sink as part of the problem. Development did not gain enough immediate momentum to change the tide of war, but the technology shows enough promise to keep him alive, for the moment. King Scotti is fixated on making these ships successful. He currently sees this as the only path forward to preserve his legacy and he will stop at nothing to see his vision become a reality.

Accessibility

Most people in Keoland do not know about the existance of these ships, and the Navy tries to keep it that way. There are only three Hummingbird ships and they are stored in a remote island off the Keoland shores.

Complexity

The ship design is pretty straight forward and modeled after small sea trading vessels. The ships have a enclosed covering that protects the crew from them 12,000 foot amplitudes. The ships are designed to be small and agile allowing them to gather information about Sea Prince military operations.

Crystals

Each trip requires two Crystals. One crystal maintains elevation while the other crystal maintains a disguise illusion. In order to control the navigation for the ship, the driver must have some affinity for the arcane. The driver has direct contact with the crystal and uses gestures to manipulate the direction of airflow. This is usually done with a pyramid gem. [double check this]. The disguise spell is maintained by a blue crystal. Under normal circumstances, the blue crystal would last several hours. The high altitudes create a magical drain on the crystals. If a crystal is drained at this high altitude it fractures and cannot be recharged, an expense the navy would like to avoid bringing to King Scotti's attention.
