Ethan Wuthnow

Ethan Wuthnow is a shapeshifting kelpieā€”a fishman that can control electricity and feeds off electrical lifeforce to survive. He was once a human and relatively famous successful CEO of Twitbook, a social media company, before he went on vacation to the beach and went missing. His whereabouts are unknown, but the truth is he was kidnapped by a sea witch named Gretchen Barton and cursed into becoming a kelpie. He made a bargain with her for fame and success in 2011 when he founded Twitbook. The bargain was that he would rapidly grow rich and famous, but in five years--he would have to give Barton the one he loved most in a blood sacrifice. However, five years later--he had to pay up and refused to give into Barton's demands. As payment, she cursed him with immortality as a kelpie. He now lives in hiding. Wuthnow was not a good man while human and has maintained his nasty character as a kelpie. With further clarification on kelpies: In folklore and myth, kelpies are a subspecies of merfolk, depicted as shape-shifting creatures who inhabit both land and sea. They were often described as being able to shapeshift into human form but their true appearance is that of a fishman, gill-man, or eel-man humanoid. Kelpies have the ability to harness electrical lifeforce to rejuvenate their own bodies or attack others. This ability must be kept recharged however through the absorption of a mortal's lifeforce at least once a month. Otherwise, the kelpie will die. Kelpies are not naturally born and can only exist through the use of a sea sorcery spell, usually carried out by a sea witch. Some view becoming a kelpie as a gift, due to the power that comes with it. Others view becoming a kelpie as a curse, as their true aquatic form can reveal itself if the individual has gone too long without water or feeding off a mortal's electrical lifeforce.
