Nanomachines

How Small is Really Small? Most nanomachines are just a few dozen nanometres across, if that, and even the most complex ones are rarely larger than a few hundred nanometres across. But what does that mean?   One nanometre is one 1000th of a micrometre, which is in turn, one 1000th of a millimetre, which is one 1000th of a metre. A nanometer is approximately one 100,000th the width of an average human hair. Thus, even the largest nanomachines are invisible to the naked eye, completely undetectable by any unaided human sense. You could swallow a thousand of them and never notice a thing.   In fact, in the Gamma Age, people do it all the time.   All armour has nano fields built in and so in order for a nano effect an armour with a field up they have to drain the battery. If you pay an extra 5000 you get 100 charged batteries(and can only be used for it) only for the field. Each effect the field stops it takes 1 charge per PL of the nanomachine, which is 9 here on Gamma World.   While there are rumours about how evil these things are, an independent study that was pulled by the govt stated that based on their test the nanomachines were programmed to help humanity. It was laughed at by most.   There are rumours of a group that has bounded to the nanomachines and works towards getting them accepted by the world as a whole.    If you are caught bound with nanomachines in your, you're taken off the street and health with quietly. Some say your cleaned and released but no one taken away has every been seen again.
