Travelers Aid Society TAS

Cost to Join: 1 million credits or granted free if shown to follow tenants of fellowship. Military organizations have so many free memberships that can grant rewards to their men for showing good actions on the field of battle.   The TAS Helps remove barriers to travel and supports the traveling lifestyle. Personnel are known to be scrupulously honest, and they also work to guard the privacy of members and their information. The TAS office is typically located in the Major Cities but in the Outlands their huts are life savers with food water power etc for their members to access.   Computer and information system access is typically high-end, and information at the TAS might be better and more current than most sources elsewhere in the area, in anything other than a seriously influential City. TAS members have first civilian “dibs” on public Scout communique and most forms of inter-system mail at the TAS office. It’s well-known that your info flows through The System more quickly when submitted here, and out-system news and correspondence arrive at a TAS suspiciously fast.       TAS members have a code of conduct and any citizen can file a complaint with the local office about interactions with anyone that identifies themselves as a TAS member.   A tribunal of 3 senior officers will review the file and interview both the complainant and the TAS member then make a decision which will be publicly declared.   The Code of Conduct is as followed: in order of importance:   1. Promote interracial cooperation between all metahumans types. Their main goal to try to get the races back together working together on our problem. High-ranking officers have direct lines to the Council of Races and continue to work on getting them closer together to work on projects that will help everyone on the planet. it is hard work with so much history of fighting since the AI was defeated. If anyone that is known as a TAS member ever shows any anti-meta human speech or association with those types of groups, membership is suspended until a full investigation is done. If found any truth in the matter membership is revoked and won't be given again unless all high-ranking officers on their council agree.   2. Defence of racial lands. They offer any of their members to support the defense of outside forces like the INFECTED or AI attacks to defend any of the racial lands. They never support attacks on other meta-human lands and ask their members to refrain from getting involved if not on active duty in the military of the various races. Normally if you are to be directly involved for a term, if you tell TAS they will put you on the Review list just so it does not seem they are supporting your placement. They require forced enlistment into defense units if a force appears that is needed to be defended against.   3. Research of technologies to close, move, travel, or any other topic on black holes to try to help us solve the problem that has been around for a very long time. The fellowship expects at least 1 month a year to be given to work on ideas or help test theories. Even if you are not trained in any science just having others hear and look at ideas can generate new ideas from different walks of life.   4. Honest interactions with society There is an expected honesty when dealing with others in a civilized society. You do not purposefully cheat steal or harm others around you for your own gain. Either in Civilized lands or outlands. That is where most complaints come from, accusations of their members not following this tenant of their code.   5. Fair treatment of other species This tenant is the hardest for some to swallow. The TAS wants to treat the mutated Animals and Plants with equal importance to other Meta Humans. They also do not want to write off ALL AIs as being murderous human-hating entities and to get the ones that show they are willing to help and work with humanity a chance. This is where most people draw the line and can't join the TAS. The Council of Races gives their member a break if they are found dealing with AIs, but any help getting into their lands are punished like any other person. The TAS normally has to get the death penalty off the table and just get them banished.

benefits of membership

A prime TAS benefit is hostel access, in the form of clean, secure rooms or capsules. Although no one would describe them as opulent, they are always clean, comfortable, and usually tastefully elegant, with hints of local themes when appropriate. Extensions of the lodging benefit are access to a lounge (where one is present) with various relaxing attributes and accommodations. TAS may also have partnerships arranged with local lounges or establishments where members are admitted. The TAS logo displayed in front of an establishment or the words “TAS recognized here” let members know they can expect accommodation and good service.

Services and goods TAS can provide

Outland Huts

TAS has found areas where you can connect to the subspace network and charge your PL 7+ equipment. These huts that are dotting across the outlands are 3 to 4-person hut hidden by holo camo devices that only drop when a member and their card is within sight of them. Normally has 3 days of food and water as well. There is no map for the safety of the locations but each region will list the number of huts in it. Once you are in the region you have to watch for TAS-known signs carved on trees, or rocks arranged in such ways to show a path. If a member is actively looking they can make a perception check DC 12 to notice any signs where a hut would be in the region. While you can bring in non-TAS members the expectation is you replace any of the food and water they use before leaving and make sure everything is left clean for the next member visit.    While a TAS member has no time limit they can stay in a hut, when staying with nonmembers no more than a few days should be spent there with others not part of the fellowship. You are also held responsible for any actions of your guests and if the location of a hut is compromised by any of your guests you are held responsible for the damage which could endanger your member or your standing with fellowship.
TAS Bank The Travellers Aid Society also provides banking services for its members, accessible through the card and supported by sophont, robotic, or persona-based entity. Member’s can access their pensions here, as well as a secure cashpoint for IMperial and local currency. Mortgage, medical, other recurring payments can be made at the TAS office through “the Bank,” and you may change currency with (most) any type available in the jump radius.   A Traveller can make a quick loan against their ticket dividend, and redeem tickets for local value   A traveller can also verify balances on linked accounts, and access funds on deposit (better info-transfer rates are available at TAS than many other sources, possibly excluding the big banks). The TAS bank also makes forward accounts available – a Traveller can send money forward before or shortly after you leave a place. This amount “goes” to your destination.
