Personal history

In the deep recesses of the Iron Peaks mountain range, lays an ancient dwarven city named Dagboldor. Three families originally founded this city, but the only family that remains are the Brimstones. These mercantile aristocrats lead the city, and Calcifer is the mayor's son. Calcifer's father, Thondon has been the leaders here for almost 300 years.   Calcifer grew up with another dwarf named, Yagrum Bagarn, they loved spelunking as children, and had started their study of the mastery of magic together. They would always compete about who knew more about the building blocks of the arcane. One unfortunate day, when Calcifer was only ten years old, that friendship ended. Yagrum was kidnapped by a person of a vile religion, Alexanderism. The person had come to the town, preaching about how he was seeking out new followers, claiming that he would one day ascend to become a God. He promised all those that joined would be shown the true power and gifts of a God. The man called himself, "The One True God," and when you looked upon him, he made you feel like every word that fell from his mouth was the truest and loveliest word you've ever heard before.   It wasn't until days after he left, that the citizens of the Dagboldor realized what had happened. Any child that had any natural talent in magic was taken. This fact taunted Calcifer, he frequently wondered why he too was not chosen. Thondon and the other leaders met immediately, and forsake any further conversation or items that had anything to do with Alexanderism. That was the last Calcifer had heard of Alexanderism for nearly 40 years.   Calcifer's brother Hakrum, was found with religious paraphernalia of Alexanderism, and was immediately exiled from the city. His betrayl not only hurt the family but has cause the entire city to grow suspicious of the family. Recently the political climate has even become hostile, many members suggesting Thondon step down. Calcifer gets followed relentlessly through the town, he can feel the eyes on him at all times. Calcifer finds himself wanting to get away more and more everyday.   It was on one of these occassions that he finally decided to just go spelunking once more. Calcifer hadn't done this since he was little, since it just never felt the same without Yagrum. He started like they always had, but instead of stopping after a few hours, he just kept going. Deeper and deeper into the naturally formed caverns he went, until he came across a vast cavern. The cavern had torches of blue, illuminating a massive mural of a black dragon, laying upon heaps of gold and metal. In the center of the room was a sarcophagus, above it was a lectern with a rather large metal book. As Calcifer approached the book he noticed an odd script he couldn't make out. Suddenly the book sprang to life - flipping it's tin pages creating sharp notes that filled this eerily quiet room. As the book settled, Calcifer could read one word, "Drink."   "Drink?" Calcifer said aloud, and as he said it - a bottle filled with glowing grey liquid appeared, floating above the book. The arcane magic pulsated from the bottle, Calcifer felt a sweeping desire to drink it, as quickly as he could. He fought the urge tooth and nail, but ultimately ended up losing the battle. With the last drop dripping into his mouth, a pain he had never felt before spread over his entire body. The blood vessels were raising to the surface inexplicable. But that was the least of the bizarre events, the book had slammed shut and the writing on the outside of the book he now realized said "Calcifer." Calcifer cautiously opened the book, and inside he could make out a set of spells. But as he flipped the pages, the remainder of the book was still undecipherable.   Picking up the book, he ran from the room, tucking it under his arm and heading for the city entrance. As he arrived, he realized something was off. The main gate had been left open. As he rushed in he heard a language he wasn't familiar with but somehow he could understand. As he peered around the corner, he saw a group of Kobolds and ducked back once more. He decided to go to a back entry to try to sneak into the city. As he entered again he could tell from this vantage that the entire city was swarming with them. A flicker of light caught Calcifer's eye in the distance, it was that of a sword being held high before it was plunged down into someone's neck. It was Thondon, and as the assailant turned he realized it was none other than Hakrum.   Uncertain of how this could all happen, Calcifer knew that his brother would undoubtedly kill him as well. Calcifer laid low in the cavern once more. As he waited, the veins in his arms started to return to normal, but in their place a dark marking was left. Calcifer did his best to rest, and after what he believed was a night, he went back to city once more. This time, all he could see was the bodies of dwarven men, women, and children strewn through the streets. He made his way to the mansion where they lived - all the possessions were left untouched.   His brother must be out there somewhere.
