Mystic Fatigue

Mystic Fatigue is a long-term condition that affects only a small portion of the population. It's causes are largely unknown but those who suffer from it often find that even being around magical items drains them of energy and leaves them in a weakened and lethargic state.

Causes

There is little known about the causes of Mystic Fatigue though it has been reported that the children of those who suffer from it have about a 15% chance of having it as well. It is thought to be an ailment caused by damage to one's magical core. Though there is no concrete evidence to support this claim. Despite the lack of evidence it is the best explanation that has been brought forward.   Another assumption is that the condition is caused by a curse rather than an illness or internal issue. This is also an unsubstantiated claim as well as less probable due to the lack of effect curse breaking methods have had on the condition in tests. Though some argue that the condition is the result of damage caused by a curse not a curse in itself.

Symptoms

Symptoms of Mystic Fatigue include magic drain, weakness, fatigue, inability to use simple magics, and magic sensitivity. These things can severely inhibit day to day life in Glenerene due to the amount of wild magic as well as practiced magic in most areas. Thus making the condition effectively disabling and potentially dangerous if not managed correctly and paid enough attention.

Treatment

Treatment of the condition often includes a daily magic restoration draught as well as attention to one's own body and taking rest of more draughts as necessary for activity levels. Magical warding and blocking runes are also commonly found in clothing and jewelry worn by those afflicted with the condition.

Prognosis

While concerning the condition itself is not fatal unless one pushes their limits too far. It has been known though to heighten sensitivity to certain other magical ailments that can be life threatening. Due to this those with Mystic Fatigue are often closely monitored by their local healer and/or their local apothecary depending on their location.

History

The origin of the condition is unknown but began to appear sometime around 150 years ago. It might have existed longer and just been unnoticed though as no one can pinpoint the exact first case of it. Despite the hazy origin it is believed that it is a semi-new ailment and has already been shown to lay dormant in some decedents to crop up after a generation or two.
