The Dark Forest

The Dark Forest, also known as the Black Woods is the largest forest ranging from the Western to the Southern Realm. The forest is known to be dangerous and it provides a dark environment. Not many people dares to enter the trees. However, the Black Forest is named after the black coloured trees that grow there, instead of the environment. The black trees are the absolute bast type of wood for building. The wood is the most hardy wood in the continent of the realms and it can last for at least hundred years. Black wood is perfect wood type for wood crafting. Although the Dark Forest have a dark environment, the forest is one of the only places left that is barely touched by the nations. Due to the lack of the nation activities, the forest is overflowing with natural flora and fauna.

Geography

The terrain is a forest ranging between the Snaking Mountains and the great River. The terrain is fairly plain, with the exception of occasional caves and disruption of the ground. There are no main rivers that run through the forrest, or likely undiscovered. However there are streams that run from the great river that run through the forrest.

Fauna & Flora

Not many large animals live in the forest. Anything larger than a dear has trouble moving quickly through the environment. A native specie of the Black Woods is the black bear. They act like protectors when someone tries to cut down black wood. Many believe the black bears live in the very heart of the forest. There is an unknown number of them.

Natural Resources

The most valuable natural resources the forest provides are the black wood type and the black water.   The black wood is the absolute best wood type for wood craft. It is the most hardy wood that exists in the land. Upon all that, the wood is also extremely light, so light that a young man can carry a full grown tree without much difficulty. The black wood is the most expensive wood because of the work to cut it down and the risk of being attacked by black bears.        The black water is a liquid that can be harvested from a black tree. After it is harvested, it can be made in to black syrup which is a soothing and long lasting food source. The syrup also can make one resistance to the cold. The only requirement of harvesting is the black tree must be alive, or else the black water produced can be poisonous.

History

The origin of the Black Woods is unknown. Some speculate during the first few centuries of the land, before the nations began deforestation, the Black Forest was apart of a greater and larger forest. Rumour says the old and greater forest's outer areas were birch trees, and the inner parts were the black trees. The old forest had a "black heart". As the nations (mainly human), cut deforested the birch outer areas, the black trees were revealed. The black trees were so hardy that it would take two vigorous lumberjacks a whole day to cut down one tree. Due to this, the nations stopped cutting the forest.
