Investigators of the Order of Crystalsmiths

The Investigators of the Order of Crystalsmiths or Investigators for short are a branch of the Order of Crystalsmith, the international organization responsible for mining, working, trading and researching Living Crystals. The Investigators' task is to hunt down and/or bring to justice those who oppose them in these tasks.

Structure

The Investigators are broken into two branches: those who guard the Order's assets and those who go after the Order's threats. Both are divided by regions, each commanded from a fortress that is the center of the Order's local operations. The latter half of the Investigators are an elite military force, often recruited from mercenary or professional armies or bought as a slave and raised to be a perfect Investigator. They are then trained in espionage, sublterfuge, survival, everything they need to be self-suificient in the open world.
On a regional level, the fortress' leader will divide available manpower into small teams of no more than five people who will conduct their operations independently and only answer to said leader.

Public Agenda

The Investigators professed role is the same as that of any common city guard: to keep the peace and order. To respond to threats of stability. In their goal they are permitted by the Order and to various degrees local rulers to have a free hand in their actions, within reason of course.

Assets

The Investigators have dozens of fortresses across many countries from which they conduct local operations. These are usually gifted to them by the local ruler as a sign of good will. Because the Order's monopoly on first hand crystal trade, their own branch organizations such as the Investigators are well funded, equipped and supplied. The Investigators are essentially a private veteran army broken into many dozens of smaller units spread across the world.

History

The Investigators started out not long after the funding of the Order itself by an agreement between the rulers of the Mandate, the Covenant and the Empire of Yonn. It rose to prominence thirty years ago during the Crystal Madness, when a group of respected Crystalsmiths tasked with research were found guilty of conducting horrible criminal experiements involving fusing living crystal with the bodies of individuals. The Investigators exterminated the rogue faction and gained considerable prestige from doing so. Now, a generation later, it seems the Investigators are up against their old enemies again.
