Devil

Devils are a type of fiend whose home Plane is Echoing, but whose original native realm is elsewhere (typically, but not necessarily exclusively, Harmony).

Creation

Devils are distinct from Demonkind in that they are not native to Echoing, but are instead corrupted Souls. When a mortal dies, and their Soul is ejected, it is typically "returned" to the Song of Creation and becomes one with the rest of the universe once more. Some Souls may instead be "taken" by the Gods to dwell in Symphony, or undergo other pathways as determined by their culture. However, when a Soul has been so terribly marred by some drastic action that is inimical to the Song Itself, a Soul might find itself "stolen" and falling to Echoing. The term "stolen" is, however, somewhat of a misnomer, for it is not possible for a Soul to meet such a fate without some degree of conscious choice on behalf of the mortal.   A Soul that has been "stolen" will either be devored by a Demon, or will manage to gather its own power and become a Devil. Unlike Demonkind, Devils are all intrinsically unique — often physically expressing mephorical traits that led to their fall — and are typically named and known to the Church of Eighteen Eyes, for they cannot help but meddle in the affairs of their original home plane. Like Demons, they cannot survive long outside of the Echoing, and the Song of Creation burns them terribly. However, they are filled with a sick fascination with continuing the perversion of their original home plane, and are driven ever to return and further corrupt mortals.
