Splendour
Splendour
Splendour is an Apparent, believed to be the living embodiment of the concept of living embodiments, the Song of Creation's need to manifest an awareness of Itself, to be perceived, adored, and beheld in Its glory. Splendour is known to meddle in Creation far more than any other Apparent, and is believed to have helped create the Fey within Refrain, after Madam Midnight created the Disjunction.
Splendour is believed to be a radiant, screaming light, eminating from an infinitely-sided and intersecting silver star, every single pane of which can be discerned from all sides reflecting back those who witness It.
Affiliations
Some within the Church of Eighteen Eyes consider Splendour to be the "Inward Eye," the reflection of all Souls given sentience by the Gods. In this guise, Splendour would be a subservient force to the Gods. Though meddlesome, so little contact has been had with the being — whether it can feasibly communicate or not — that there is no evidence to support or deny this theory. Scholars of the arcane reject it, however, stating that the Apparents are independant of the Gods, neither above nor below them, just adjacent and terrible in their own respect. Though there is an unorthodox recognition of Splendour within the Church, direct worship of It remains unsanctioned. Despite this, some do hold the being in reverence, as a sort of unifying light that binds the Gods to mortals. A few radicals go further, worshipping Splendour directly as a life giver to all things including the Gods. These individuals are considered infidels by the Church, and fiercely hunted.Motivations
Though the nature of Splendour is better known than any other Apparent — even if still maddeningly sparse — Its designs remain a mystery. Many theorise that Its sole goal is the continuation of Creation and the Song Itself, in a furious effort to maintain a constant changing experience to bask in. If this is the case, one would be foolish to find comfort in this fact, for as an Apparent it must be remembered that mortals — and indeed all existence that mortals understand and recognise as Reality — are so far beneath such a being that surely It cares not what is destroyed in the pursuit of the whole's continuation.
