Mhemen

The city's bones were breathed by a god.

Demographics

Slightly less than half of the city's inhabitants are born-and-bred Mhemets. The other half of the city is a bustling mess of itinerants and merchants.

Government

The temple holds most of the unofficial power in the city. The head of the temple is the de facto city leader, though they bow their heads to a council of wealthy merchants and nobles.

History

The city's backbone was created by a godbound teetering on the edge of madness. She had the ability to earthcall, and as she was reaching the end of her stable life she summoned out massive pillars and plates and tubes that formed the foundation of the settlement. It took generations for the plates to fill, but now the upper plates are completely full with nobility and high-ranking merchants. The lowest level has escaped the original bounds, sprawling out in slums that aren't 'officially' considered part of the city and thus aren't regulated.   The temple to the Whole One resides on the Sunlight Plate, the uppermost level of the city. There are 'satellite' temples on the lower levels, to teach and keep an eye on the other areas.

Natural Resources

The mountains to either side of the city are ore-rich, and after generations they've been worn away until the backbone of the mountain emerges from the northernmost tip of the city and the rest has been turned into farmland and slums. Iron ore is the main export from the city, as are the magic lights that are longest-lasting.
