Personal history
Lady Charlindra Lin'orzza was the youngest of four siblings. She was mistreated by her family due to a physical deformity. Her eyes were tinged with crimson. While that would not normally make her the object of ridicule in drow society, there was always something behind those eyes that disturbed everyone that saw them. It was a blemish on drow perfection. She was seen as a blight on her family, and despite their abuse, she was always pushing herself to prove she was worthy.
As she got older, she began hearing whispers in her mind. First, they seemed to be the thoughts of those around her. Months after this began, she heard voices that she felt were from beyond the walls of reality. It frightened her, and was only made worse when she could read the minds of family members and people close to her. To her face they called her odd and looked down on her. But Charlindra knew that in their minds, they feared her.
It was shortly after Lady Charlindra realized she could bend people to her will that things changed for her.
One morning her family discovered that she was gone. Nowhere to be found. She had taken nothing with her, and left no note. She had just disappeared. No one missed her, or even searched for her. They simply breathed a sigh of relief and tried to move on with their lives. Months later there came a knock on the front door. Lady Charlindra had returned but seemed very different than the last time any of them had seen her. She had physically matured years rather than months, blossoming into a beautiful woman. She had strength, both physically as well as mentally. When her sisters attacked her verbally, she would dominate them with thought and forced them to embarrass themselves. If they raised a hand against her, she would strike them down.
Her family no longer kept it a secret. They now openly feared her, as they should have.
As if to further confuse them, Lady Charlindra began training with the bastard sword. She became a quick study and was soon besting the male drow assigned to train her. Her mother began favoring her, more out of fear of her lethal offspring than anything else. Her dominance over the family was obvious, and it was clear that none could stand against her.
After several days of silence at the house, a delivery boy discovered that the entire family was dead. All except the new head of the household, Lady Charlindra. Despite the cause of death being obvious decapitations, inquisitors ruled it an accident and the matter was dropped.
Lady Charlindra was soon approached by Lasdolon Azrinae. She knew of his shady reputation, even for drow, and Lady Charlindra dismissed what he had to say. But he was persistent and charming. Lasdolon took her to the Umbral Temple, a holy shrine of power that had long been locked away. The walls were warded, impenetrable both physically and magically. Next to the sealed door was a block of stone with an imprint in it. It was the imprint of a hand, one that looked very much like hers. Lasdolon told her that the hand had to be from a member of an ancient royal bloodline - that of Empress Ardura. Lasdolon told her that she was that descendant. However, it would take the power of the Empress herself to open the door. She needed to obtain the soul prison of Empress Ardura and take power for herself. Then she would be strong enough to open the doorway. Once inside, no one would ever dare to look down on her again.
Morality & Philosophy
Lady Charlindra believes in "the greater good." While she may have had personal reasons for eliminating her family, she felt that they were clearly unable to function within society. They squandered resources, turning their good family name into something seen as a joke. She felt vindicated in her actions when she learned of her noble heritage.
While Lady Charlindra may have found the killing of innocents wrong, she believed that she was serving a greater good in the end, and thus the killings were necessary. She dreamed of a world where her people were treated justly and the only way to attain that world was by doing whatever the Twilight Empire asked her to do. Despite this, Lady Charlindra clearly understood that her actions were, in her own words, "evil", and she thought of herself as a "monster". She frequently expressed the preferred option in detail, even as she carried out what she deemed necessary. In addition to her weapon and draa'kyl training, Lady Charlindra was dangerous due to her resolve, that she would stop at nothing to accomplish her mission, even though that meant killing innocent people. She truly believed that what she was doing was ultimately for the greater good, and yet she had no delusions about the evils of her actions in her own lifetime.
