Episode 9 - Renegades and Reunions

General Summary

The group went to Boss Croat’s compound to meet with the Riddleport Crime Boss. A meeting had just loudly wrapped up as the crew arrived. Six men sat at a large table in the room, with Boss Croat at the head of it. The motley gentlemen joining Boss Croat were the leaders of six of the larger gangs in Riddleport.
One of these men, Ressin, was the leader of The Rat Street Renegades. Boss Croat suggested that he might have an idea what happened to Larur since Rat Street was his turf. Ressin refused to answer the questions at first. Croat warned him that if he was holding out on the 500 gp without giving Croat a cut, there would be repercussions.
Standing off to the side was about a dozen human females – the “personal staff” of the various gang leaders. Belidas, well dressed and silent, seemed to know Alyuin. Belidas teared up when she first saw Alyuin and kept trying to get her attention, subtly at first then much more blatantly. Ressin warned her to stop. Boss Croat became agitated, kicked everyone out of his home and told the group to continue their discussion at Ressin’s place. Croat tossed a satchel to Ressin and told him, and the group to leave. Now.
Baskets and More was a shop that sold baskets, sacks and containers of different kinds (with occasion extra items being added to the containers) Four men stood around as security in the shop, three human and one red tiefling who had an odd ring of long, soft fur growing around his neck. These “store security” men took the group into the back and let them down into a cave system of some kind. Ressin, Belidas, a warrior armed with a long and short sword, a tiefling woman with the tips of her hair constantly smoldering, and an elderly aristocrat type was waiting below. Ressin wanted 500 gp to provide information on Larur. And since they also want Belidas, that will cost another 500 gp.
The group retreated to the Gold Goblin and came up with a strategy. They paid the 500 gp out of their own pockets and gave it directly to Boss Croat. They then returned to the Basket Shop to discuss terms with Ressin. But when they arrived, the cellar had been cleared out and the Renegades had dispersed. One crate remained below. In it was Belidas’ hand with a note clutched in her bloody fist – “I dislike problems.”
They searched the cave and found a lapel pin that belonged to the old aristocrat who had been there the day before – Ancis Holson, a shipping merchant. Ancis was tracked down on his ship. He panicked when confronted and not only gave up Ressin but confessed to having seen Larur being killed by a big man wielding a couple of axes. The big man tossed the dwarf’s corpse into the back of his own cart and rode away.
In a nearby warehouse, the party confronted Ressin and his cohorts. Belidas attacked Ressin, and the fight was on. In the end, Ressin and the tiefling woman were killed, and the warrior was taken into custody after he surrendered.
Back at the Gold Goblin, Belidas was thrilled to be back with Alyuin and wanted to hear about everything she’d been up to over the past several years. She’d heard about a small town outside of Riddleport – Magepoint  – and was thinking about heading out there to start over. She admitted that she wanted to ask Alyuin to join her but she knew her daughter was now on her own path.
Saul and his bodyguard Bojask welcomed them back. Saul was saddened by what he heard about Larur. He also seemed to crush on Belidas a little and offered her the Floor Manager job. Belidas said that Sarenrae would want her to help redeem an evil-doer, and she had heard plenty about Saul. Sarenrae also preached that those who cannot be redeemed should be destroyed. So she agreed to take the job, and a sword just in case.

Gold Goblin Pay: 35 gp per character.
Salvage: The rusty Mechanical Construct that failed to act during the ambush was recovered and sent for salvage. There were some arcane components that were recovered from the Construct as well. Between the scrapyard and the Cyphermages, total gold was 755 gp.
Gendarme Reward for Ressin’s demise: 50 gp
Gear from the ambush: Bracers of Armor +1, Potion of Cure Light Wounds, Potion of Invisibility.

Character(s) interacted with

Winifred Aldysh – Fred had become a squire of sorts to Sir Godric, learning and training her swordplay. She also practiced her Halfling with Sakali. She confessed that she originally learned the language from halfling slaves that her father kept.
Belidas – Alyuin’s adopted mother. A strong woman, forced to be stronger when her husband Merish was killed by Ressin for not agreeing to become the gang leader’s hired muscle. She seems excited to tackle the job as Floor Manager for the Gold Goblin.
Boss Croat – The obese half-orc did not send the group a basket of papples from his orchard for killing Ressin.
Ancis Holson – The old man owned a ship, the Naga’s Wrath. He wasn’t the captain, he simply owned the ship and “arranged the cargo”. Drugs, I’m talking about drugs here.
