Order of Alchemists
The Order of Alchemists is the greatest organization of mages and educated folk in The Gold Empire. It is the only group that is permitted to practice magic and train new mages, and it has historically played a central role in the Gold Empire's economy and war machine. Perhaps the most important duty of the Order of Alchemists falls to the Yellow Order, which is the duty of state bank, mint and regulating financial institutions.
However, while the Order of Alchemists is most famous for the alchemical ability of the Yellow Order and the warcraft of the Red Order, different orders work in every aspect of Imperial society. The most reliable way of getting a higher education in the Gold Empire is through the universities of the Order, the alternative being the places of learning of free states. The Order thus produces many well-educated folk.
Due to the Order's power, it is given a lot of leeway and freedom from imperial scrutiny, provided that it serves imperial interests.
However, while the Order of Alchemists is most famous for the alchemical ability of the Yellow Order and the warcraft of the Red Order, different orders work in every aspect of Imperial society. Structure
Universities
The Order generally operates out of universities across the Gold Empire. These universities are often funded and co-owned by either royal houses or the aurathean church, though there are a few independent alchemical universities. The universities have a dual responsibility:
The Rainbow Orders
Since ancient times, the alchemists have organized themselves in the Rainbow Orders. Each Rainbow Order has the responsibility for one field of academia and research, and its alchemists have expertize in this field. Most alchemists will take courses in several orders, with each completed course giving them the right to wear more and more of the associated colors. When alchemists become "Masters" in a field, they are finally permitted to wear full alchemical robes in the color of the Order they took their master in. The orders are:
Most alchemists are "Masters of Alchemy", a title earned after five years of study and the approval of a Master's Thesis. Three years of these five are spent taking courses in the different Rainbow Orders, and the last two are spent working part-time on a research project and part-time studying advanced subject within their chosen order. When these five years are over and they finally gain the title of Master, they may wear the colored robe of their Rainbow Order.
Masters of Alchemy are often employed in different industries and are an important part of the imperial economy.
The next rung up the ladder is Doctor of Alchemy, which only the best and brightest alchemists can hope to attain. Becoming a Doctor requires 4 years more of study and research, working under the tutelage of one or several other doctors. Some are known to take their doctorate within or in collaboration with another Rainbow Order, thus becoming a two-color alchemist and wearing robes of the two distinct colors of their orders.

Goldstadt
In many ways the capital of the Imperium Alchemical, Goldstadt is an old city founded by gnomish and human wizards who were driven from Cyneland during the mage purges of the Elven Civil Wars. It is the center of the modernization of the Gold Empire, and all technology and inventions that has made the Gold Empire a prosperous nation were tested and employed in Goldstadt first.
It is a culture shock to many who visit the city, who are perhaps used to stone walls and horse-carriages from their home cities, to see the glass-and-metal marvels wrought by the alchemical artisans of the city. The University of Goldstadt is the best and oldest university in the Gold Empire.
The Crimson Keep
Located in the high mountains of Ypsilos, the Crimson Keep is a vast fortress spoken only about in whispers. Protected by the most loyal and trusted alchemists of the Red Order, the Crimson Keep houses many of the Godweapons the Gold Empire has encountered during the wars of conquest. The Crimson Keep's main mandate is to keep the weapons away from the Gold Empire's enemies, but it is also known to experiment with the Godweapons in order to understand them, and whispers even suggest that they are actively studying them in order to replicate them and incorporate them into the imperial arsenal.
