The Hunt

The Owls have joined Po as his comrades-at-arms for his Hunt, the githzherai ritual of maturity. They have been sent into the depths to hunt the illithilich, an arcane-fueled mind flayer who has gained immortality by sacrificing the souls of living creatures.
The hunt will take them into an ancient mind flayer base, crawling with monsters, mind flayer weapons and powerful magic traps.

Relations

Adversaries

Dalbok
Dalbok is a mind flayer who has taught himself the path to lichdom, in order to survive the Akshusian mess and escape into the stars. He fled the Eternal City when the Grand Necromancer sent forces to reclaim its library, and has now come to the Underfortress: last defence of the mind flayers, in order to perfect teleportation magic that will finaly send him home to the Void.
He is however having a great deal of difficulty with this.
Sebestién Hresh - the Terror of Leimbell
Sebestién Hresh is an old vampire of the Hresh-dynasty, one of the very first afflicted with the bloodcurse of Attila Hresh. Unlike many of his kindred, who sought to rule the skies and surface lands, Sebestién sought to the underground, where he could feed on cruel drow and other evil creatures.
He claimed the Underfortress for himself when the mind flayers left it, and built a colossal hive of his own within it. When Dalbok returned to the Underfortress, Sebestién reacted with hostility first, but then Dalbok reached him, he reached into Sebestién's mind and opened up neuronal paths and memories that had been locked away by the beast for too long.
As a man once more, Sebestién agreed to help Dalbok return home, provided that Dalbok could find a way to restore his mind permanently.
As a "man", Sebestién fights with the black drow battleaxe Masnolaeth, drow for "Death Merchant", as well as a magical shield, a suit of black drow plate and a cloak of displacement. Hrsikith warns Israfel of this weapon, recognizing it as the weapon of the dreaded drow warlord Morwin Dai.
As a "man-beast", Sebestién grabs the weapon he has used for many millenia, and which hasgrown with his hate and power: Tutotoz, a gigantic broadsword made of fire and flame. In this form he wields a variety of pyromancy, but his AC is reduced.
As a true beast, Sebestién still fights with Tutotoz, but he is now feral, brutal and quick. His AC is even lower, but he makes up for it

Locations

The Underfortress
The underfortress was built by the Mind Flayers during the later days of the Akshusian uprising, as a place the local mind flayers could hide and wait for support. However, the wait never came, and as more and more mind flayers went their own ways the Underfortress was abandoned. It was taken by vampires of the Hresh-dynasty in its dilapadation, but when the illithilich Dalbok returned these were subjugated by its psionic and necromantic power.
Even now the underfortress is in disrepair, parts of it given over to flooding, other parts with smoldering lava, and many of its nooks and crevices crawling with skeletons, wights and Hresh-spawn.
The Underfortress contains enough content for a full adventuring day for a party of 5 level 17 characters 125 000 XP.
Easy: 10 000
Middle: 19 500
Hard: 29 500
Deadly: 44 000
1 D + 2H + 1M = 122 500
The Deadly encounter will be the bossfight against Dalbok and Sebestién.
Denizens
The Underfortress is currently occupied by an eclectic group, brought together by Dalbok's mastery of necromancy and telepathy. The "original" denizens of the Underfotress remains, Sebestién's children in their hives, which serve as bestial lookouts, scouts and guards. Additionally, Dalbok has broken a group of duergar and gotten them under his command, and these serve as guards and maintain the inner workings of the Underfortress.
Additionally, a group of cyclopes, with their simple minds, have also had their wills broken by Dalbok and serve as living battering rams against his enemies.

Encounters

Fighting the Alien and the Beast
In the lowest portion of the Underfortress waits Dalbok and Sebestién. Dalbok spends every waking moment working on his teleporter home to the Void, and Sebestién serves as his bodyguard.
The room is has a large central dais for the teleporter, which is connected to the doors via to relatively wide paths. North and south of this dais are two pools that are the polar opposite of one another: one made of lava and one made of water. In these pools there is a small island, and on the island in the lavapool there is a forcefield-projector.
When the Owls begin approaching, Sebestién goes in the water to hide and surprise his enemies, while Dalbok goes up to the forcefield and takes up position there.
When the Owls have entered the room fully, Sebestién jumps out and attacks the nearest enemy. When he is sufficiently wounded, he will change into a more bestial form and grab a fire greatsword from the laval. As a "man" Sebestién banters and has fun, clearly enjoying the fight, but as he gets more and more bestial his anger and hunger take control once again. He still fears sunlight, and tries to stop any from appearing near him.
Dalbok's forcefield has an AC of 15 and 150 hit points. It regenerates 50 hit points at the start of every turn. There are three generators in the room that must be destroyed in order to fully destroy Dalbok's forcefield. These have an AC of 12 and 40 hit points each, and destroying each reduces the hit points of the forcefield by 50 permanently.
