Anna Cēlmensis

Why do I even bother? All these poor blind fools will just follow those with the loudest voices.
— Anna Cēlmensis, 24 AA
Anna Cēlmensis is a Naragēsi in the Taisari Army who is garrisoned in the colony of Upēsis. She was responsible for finding the body of Kt. Freidiks Ulum and as a result, was blamed for his murder in the Hesi Blues. Anna herself has claimed that she believes that the unknown lifeform that Freidiks Ulum had mentioned in Expedition Report - Sei could have been responsible for his death. However, due to the classified nature of that report, she has only shared her theory with other soliders and officers who are alllowed to read what Ulum had written.

Before the Blues

Anna was born in Gale in the year 1 BGA. Her parents were slaves to Obrik Leita, a dangerous and powerful drug cartel. As soon as she was old enough to carry goods and deliver messages, the cartel forced her to work for them. During her time there, she witnessed multiple attempts by slaves to break free, but her family never joined them. Anyone who had tried to escape were brutally killed or experimented on.

Freedom

Freedom finally arrived when Keila of Taisas launched an assault on the cartel's compound in 16 AGA, giving Anna and her parents a chance to break free. From that day on, Anna and her family were fierce supporters of Keila and the new Republic of Taisas that she was creating. After the town of Vailia joined the Republic of Taisas, Anna's parents were given an important task from the Taisari Defense Force to eavesdrop on the local residents there and to report signs of rebellion back to the government back in Gale.
Anna followed her parents to their new home, despite their job making her feel uncomfortable. She wanted to help people, to bring them the freedom and safety that she never had as a child. In Vailia Anna couldn't make any friends as she knew her parents' profession could make things painful.   There were a few instances when she tried befriending people early on, but she soon realised that her upbringing had messed with her mind. Anna had seemed weird to others. At times she was serious and constantly deep in her thoughts while on other occasions, she seemed silly and obnoxious.   After a while, she had grown to accept her lot in life and despite all of that, she still wanted to help. Even if she could never maintain a reasonable relationship, she at least wanted to make sure that everyone was safe and happy.

Joining the Army

Soon after her nineteenth birthday, Anna joined up with the Taisari Home Guard. There she was handed her first rifle, an old crude weapon that had been roughly repaired. Anna named it Nik, after her father, and it remained her main weapon until she received a brand new rifle from Gale Arsenal in the late summer of 23 AGA.   Anna's time in the Taisari Home Guard had ended after the founding of Upēsis in 22 AGA. The military valued her talent and loyalty and she was transfered over to the Taisari Army and assigned to protect the newfound colony. While she was garrisoned there, the Sei had launched a great raid against the settlement. After proving herself in battle, Anna was promoted to Naragēsi.

Accused and Abandoned

Justice for Ulum! Death to the murderer!
— István Árapsid, Upēsis protestor

One morning as Anna was heading to Watchtower - Hesi, she stumbled across the body of Freidiks Ulum. The solider had recently become a hero in Upēsis after he had returned alive from the Sei Expedition. As soon as Anna realized what she had found in the snow, she signalled for help. The news of the murder spawned consipracy theories about the Hesi Blues.   One theory claimed that the government had killed him. When the news came in that the body had been fresh when Anna found it, many of the theorists started placing the blame on her. Whether it was guilt, a way of escaping justice, or a broken spirit from having the colony turn on her, Anna ended her life with a shot to the head eleven days after the settlement heard of the autopsy reports.

Freidiks and Anna

Anna and Freidiks Ulum didn't know each other very well. They both lived in the same barracks but seldom talked to one another. By all accounts when the two did talk, they got along perfectly fine.   When the Sei Expedition was being prepared, Anna voulunteered to join, but the army decided to take Ulum instead.

Hesi Blues
Myth | Dec 11, 2019

The Hesi Blues is what the people of Upēsis call the murder of Kt. Ulums, a soldier who had been the sole survivor of a dangerous expedition.

It has been an honour to serve the law and order that Taisas has brought to these lands. I'm afraid that I am no longer fit to protect the colony. I fear that if the attackers were to come, I'd side with them, just to take shots at those who've lied about me. Long may Keila reign and good luck suppressing those rebels. Goodbye.

Well, I was not expecting that ending. Not that it’s bad, just unexpected, the Stockley seemed to be setting up for her to have been someone who loved a long life and achieved a lot, and this feeling of incompleteness really makes me wonder if things could have been different, had she lived for longer.
