Gonde is a slightly larger planet than Earth, with a significantly longer orbit around its sun. A year on Gonde lasts for 1117 days. Most civilized cultures have adopted a calendar of 22 months consisting of 5 tendays each and a 17 day renewal festival before the start of the new year. Gonde is a mild planet, wet at the equator but not too hot, with large temperate zones giving a mostly stable climate across most of the planet. The far north and south are frigid as much due to the high mountains near both poles as to any axial tilt affecting seasonal temperatures, but by the time the mountains drop below 3000 feet, still quite far north, the temperature becomes mild enough for four recognizable seasons. Magic permeates Gonde, affecting daily life through magical weather events and geographical zones of strong magic in the very soil, yet only a small percentage of the population can channel it. Watched over by Solus and Luna, the gods who keep The Nameless One in check, the gods rarely step in to influence the development of the races on Gonde. Large portions of the world remain unexplored by the sentient races. Whole continents are virtually cut off from the rest of the world by impenetrable forest or treacherous coastline, beyond the navigation ability of even the best of sailors. The pockets of civilization, aided by magical communication, do have regular contact with each other for trade, but by and large the distances between them mean that their development is left unhindered. Even the oldest of Gonde's civilizations are less than a millenia old and in this young, developing world, unknown to most, cosmic forces are at work and unimaginable events are planned that may shake the entire world to its very core.
