Overview of Noble Titles

The peerage of the Kingdom of Crathlia can be quite confusing for those who haven't spent most of their lives submerged in it (like myself). Formal forms of address, in particular, can be easy to get wrong. This page serves as a "cheat sheet" of sorts, a reference of how to address people with full, real-life examples.   The first bullet point in quotation marks underneath each title refers to how one would address the noble in a formal setting. The second refers to how a noble of this rank would be announced at a ball or other formal event.   This article assumes for the sake of example that I am already married to Crown Prince Victor.

Who are they, and how do you address them?

Hereditary Monarch of Crathlia - Alderley King/Queen Chosen Monarch of Crathlia - most powerful man/woman within 5 years either direction of the king or queen's age Hereditary Crown Prince(ss) of Crathlia - most powerful of the children of the two above
  • also has courtesy title Prince(ss) of Wavebreak
  • "Your Royal Highness"
  • "His Royal Highness, the Hereditary Crown Prince Victor Alderley Evenbrook of Crathlia, the Prince of Wavebreak"
Chosen Crown Prince(ess) of Crathlia - most powerful man/woman within 5 years either direction of the heir's age Prince(ss) of Crathlia - the other kids of the king and queen, and any children of the Crown Prince and Princess Duke/Duchess [Clan Name] of [Place Name] - the most powerful man/woman of the oldest generation of Clan Name unless he or she has a greater title (not including Prince(ss), which is a title with no actual power). If he or she does have a higher title, such as in my case (I am to be the Chosen Crown Princess), the duchy passes to the next eligible person. Only one heir may be named per generation, and when this heir dies, the next heir in the next generation takes the title. Duchies very often comes with extra titles, which can be given as the duke/duchess chooses as long as it's in the clan; usually one is given to their heir. Count/Countess of [Clan Name] - the most powerful man/woman of the oldest generation of Clan Name unless he or she has a greater title (not including Prince(ss)) (in which case it passes to the next eligible person), only one heir may be named per generation (same rules as Dukes)
