Inspiration Pool
A NEW WAY TO HANDLE INSPIRATION
Welcome to a "fun-but-potential-train-wreck-of-an-untested" new mechanic. Will report back after playtesting, provided future violence does not impede my ability to do so.
The table begins with a bowl (pool) containing two inspiration tokens that any member of the party can use at will.
For each significant action that a player takes highlighting his or her traits/bonds/flaws/or simply good roleplaying, the DM (at their discretion, naturally) adds one additional inspiration token to the pool.
Again, anyone can use these at anytime. There’s not a "per character limit," save that only one may be used during the same round.
You may only use one inspiration token per player/per round. However more than one player may use an inspiration token (if available) per round.
You may not horde inspiration tokens. You must use one (and only one) the same round (or moment, if non-combat) you pull it.
You may (eventually - one per round!) use more than one inspiration token on the same failed task. Though it better be an important one!
PC's may decide amongst themselves if a vote should be taken to allow a player to pull from the pool. This is strictly for them to police. The DM does not get involved!
The bowl maxes out at six tokens (or fewer at the DM's discretion, or for smaller party sizes), so for large parties, there will never be enough tokens for everyone.
So use them wisely!*
*beware of the much intended consequences to polite party politics!
