Masterwork Blades

Swords of note in the world of Gothenya...

As magical items are exceedingly rare in the west (and all over Gothenya, for that matter), the serious weapon handler turns instead to works of high quality from master craftsmen of the forge. Because of this, over the years several names have gained a great deal of fame for the quality of their blades. The phenomenon of masterwork weapons tends to lean heavily on swords, though other masterwork weapons are not unknown.
Some of the most noteworthy names (family names of the master crafters) follow. These names are legendary, and their associated blades cost upwards of five to six times the cost of a similar blade minus the distinct family name.

Significance

The significance of each weapon varies somewhat, as some family names are held higher than others. For example, a Peerless longsword fetches nearly twice the gold as an Olnick.

Rarity

All masterwork items are rather rare, but not nearly as rare as anything magical in nature. In game terms, many have bonuses as if they were magic, however most do not count as magic weapons for the purposes of hitting creatures only damaged by enchanted weapons.
