The Drum of Chronos
"The first known phonographic device..."
A brass drum, covered in wax and spinning vertically on a steel spindle, the Drum of Chronos is said to be the audio recording device of the Gods. Grooves cut into the wax rotate with the spindle. When a special needle is applied to the grooves, sounds emanate from the center of the hollow drum, which acts as an amplifier.
It is said the wax changes of its own accord, presenting different recorded messages, specifically riddles (allegedly from Chronos, himself) which lead those who solve it to something significant. Some say it tells the future. Others believe it tells you hidden or lost truths from the distant past.
It is one of the original items said to have been lost from Celene during the Sundering, when a multitude of magic and magically endowed devices spilled from the mountain's interior.
Whether or not any of the above is true is up for debate. Until the drum (if it indeed exists) turns up, the world may only guess at its secrets.
It is believed that dwarves were created to be the forge masters of the gods. As such, it is assumed that Chronos employed them to create the drum, as they supposedly crafted (along with the off-shot race of gnomes) most godly items of magic.
Significance
Allegedly crafted by the Lord of TIme, himself.
