Zelna Lencore
Zelna Lencore is a human woman of indeterminate age, who is close friend and former lover to Krimko of Bramble (aka Kelike Varble). Kelike first met Zelna when he was in the middle of fulfilling his initiate work for the dreaded Boorka, for whom he intended to serve as an arcane archivist. In his travels to Varuumae Cornona, he happened across a girl in trouble with the law. The young Zelna Lencore was a thief and a raconteur, but Kelike instantly saw the potential within her. After bailing her out, more than once, mind you, the two quickly became inseparable.
Eventually, Kelike decided her latent talents should be brought to the attention of his masters in Sage. Part of his work as an initiate was to search for potential recruits, but not to actually return home with them. But within Zelna was a wellspring of untapped sorcerous magic, and he couldn't let her simply slip away. In defiance of his code, he returned to Sage with her in tow.
After a scary interlude with his masters, where Kelike feared he may be exiled (or worse), the Boorka eventually saw the same power within Zelna that their initiate detected.
So it was that Zelna gave up her life of petty crime, once Kelike saw in her a strong affinity for The Art. She stayed with him in Sage and honed her craft, under the tutelage of the Boorka masters. During her training, Kelike continued his work, documenting and researching arcane magical items allegedly culled from Mount Celene. It was while working on one such item, alleged to be the lost Rod of Ryktuss (see entry) that Zelna's interests seemed to shift.
She suddenly became overtly interested in the specifics of his work, particularly anything involving the Rod of Ryktuss. Around this time she became an initiate herself, only in a different department. She was adopted by the "Seekers," a division of the Boorka intended for missions of subterfuge and trickery. Even amongst the normally fearless Boorka, the Seekers were given a wide berth. Kelike began to think she was perhaps investigating him.
And here is where the details get muddy. First, Kelike gave up his initiate status and became a full Boorka. He was inducted into the order of the "Librarians," a select group from which many of the Boorka who served within the Curiosity were later pulled. In quick time, it was Zelna's turn to give up her initiate status and graduate to full Boorka.
But then, on the eve of becoming a true Boorka, she betrayed Kelike, which led to his self exile. The details of her betrayal are sheer conjecture, but it perhaps had something to do with Kelike's research into the necromantic arts, and specifically the Rod of Ryktuss. Whatever it was, it led Kelike to destroy the vast majority of his research and put an arcane lock on the rod itself, barring others from utilizing its power. He did this knowing he could never escape with the item in tow, but fearing the application of its great powers in the hands of those with "differing" morals.
Kelike was forced to travel far from Sage, heading north to Hariel Majour, and even changing his name. Krimko, it seems, is but one of several aliases the exiled mage was forced to adopt.
Years passed, and Kelike (now Krimko) ended up settling in Bramble. It had been an eternity since he last saw Zelna, however he still thought of her nearly every day. This continued until one day he received a notification that a seller wanted to offload a powerful magic item, one which Krimko was actively seeking. This item turned out to be the Rod of Ryktuss, and the seller, Zelna.
The two were reunited, and Krimko found it in his heart to forgive his former lover. It seemed as if she hadn't aged a single day, something she attributed to magic she learned from her former order. She had fled the Boorka and even managed to steal the rod (largely due to the skills inherent to her forner life as a thief).
Zelna and Krimko even began to rekindle their affair, but the power of the Rod still needed to be dealt with. Krimko removed his arcane lock in order to allow one of his colleagues, the necromancer-in-hiding Quinias Merto, and sent Zelna and the rod west to Sacrament, in order to have the item examined and catalogued. Then he intended to place it safely in his arcane vault, where none could access it. However the rod's disappearance did not go unnoticed, by both the Boorka, as well as other agents of the Art.
Krimko's loyal party of adventurers volunteered to escort Zelna to Sacrament, and protect her from outside forces looking to steal the rod.
One such was the undead death knight, Lord Vorliss (see entry), who tracked the party to Sacrament and ambushed the vault. After a pitched battle, Vorliss managed to escape with both the rod... and Zelna. As of right now, her fate is unknown.
