Revolution
Regarding the brief, but eventful, period in history when the Kingdom of Wyeth was controlled by outside rulers.
200 years ago, in 1,220 A.W., the sovereign monarchy of Wyeth was disrupted when the king failed to sire an heir to the throne. Conflict stirred along a knife's edge for hundreds of years prior to this, with small skirmishes breaking out every few years. It seemed for a time, that the crown may be able to hold fast against its many challenges. However, roughly 220 years ago, the open conflicts became far more brazen. Most significantly, The upstart Barony of Rocha massed the citizen soldiers of The Freemantle (a loose confederation of independent orbital city-states and farm towns) against the last original King of Wyeth, Neral Wyeth "The Green." One major impetus for the conflict was the fact that Neral never took a queen, and as such, never sired an heir. His intent was to pass the crown to his (much younger) child brother, Kamen. Once the Freemantle was marshalled against the crown, war soon followed. The open revolt lasted nearly 10 years, with Wyeth even forced to bring in foreign aid to assist in its defense. Neral Wyeth lost the war, but was allowed to peacefully abdicate his throne to the first non-Wyethian ruler in the history of the kingdom. Robert Ranleigh took the throne in 1229 A.W. For nearly 100 years, the crown continued to pass to non-Wyethian kings "elected" by the newly formed Council of the Freemantle. Over the course of these years, the implanted rulers became less and less competent. And finally, in 1328 A.W., the Wyeth line was restored when the a war hero named Jothan Wyeth led a relatively bloodless coup to retake the throne. This was made possible in part because the members of the Freemantle were still engaged in open hostility in many regions, having never fully agreed to terms regarding the transfer of power after Neral's defeat.
