Jehan Prègent

Jehan Antoine de Vermandois et Prègent, 11th count of Valbon, was a Pargentais military architect, engineer, strategist and served as Captain-General of the Kingdom of Pargentie during the Gunpowder War. He is generally regarded to have been one of the greatest military architect-engineers in history.   Prègent was one of the most important figures in the Pargentais war effort, being the driving force behind the restoration and modernization of many of Pargentie's old fortresses, ensuring they were up to the standards needed to face the then-ongoing full-scale invasion by the Imperial Army. He is renowned for his brilliant reforms in military architecture and engineering, converting many old and disrepaired fortresses into modern star forts with relatively few resources, as well as for his success as a strategist on the field of battle.

Early Life and Education

Jehan Antoine de Vermandois et Prègent was born in Valbon, Duchy of Mélinne, on Plantatio 1395, to Urbain Prègent de Valbon, 10th Count of Valbon (c. 1369-1423) and Marie-Héloyse de Vermandois (d. 1426). Unusually for someone of his status, he took both of his parent's surnames; this is often done in Pargentie in case the mother's family is more prestigious than the father's (and Prègent's maternal grandfather was Georges Mercier, 11th Duke of Vermandois).
