Channaia
Channaia is the moon of Granthea, so named because it is believed in most cultures to be the seat of the Goddess Channaia. In Verdonese myth, Archios made the sun, Archas to radiate life-giving light into the universe. However once Granthea was formed and Channa created its life, the Goddess realized that living things would be cast in darkness for half the time. So, Channa made the moon to reflect Archas’ light in order to ensure that living things could thrive at night without fear. Channa then occupied the moon as her throne so that she could look down through the darkness and protect her sleeping children from evil. (For more about the gods, see Ecumenical Pantheonism)
Channaia orbits Granthea every 32 days, or 11.625 times per year. Many cultures do use the precision of its phases and the “roundness” of their 32 day period as a basis for timekeeping, but must in that case account for a seasonal drift.
Geography
Channaia's surface is covered in craters and dusty, gravelly plains. The Northern area is more predominantly cratered, with the southern area more predominantly flat. Channaia’s visible surface also has several mountains, the tall of which is known as The Throne. It is 2450 meters tall and topped with a small crater that is angled directly at the surface of Granthea. There is no astronomical explanation for this as such a trajectory would not be possible for an object entering from the wider Archal system, so it is believed that some phenomenon originating on Granthea created it. Most mystics revere this mountain is where Channa herself rests in contemplation of life, giving the mountain its name.
Natural Resources
Channaia's chemical makeup is believed to be somewhat different than Granthea's, indicating that it formed separately within or outside the Archal System and was captured by Granthea. Small areas of Channaia are seen to give off a faint blue glow, indicating the presence of large amounts of Charged Magicite. This glow cannot be seen with the naked eye but with telescopes it is observable. It is believed that there is far more Magicite on Channaia than on Granthea— some say the moon could be up to 40% Magicite.
History
Channaia is an intrinsic part of Granthean life, responsible for the tides and lighting up the night sky, among innumerable other phenomenon. Channa herself has instructed her followers to look to the moon when they pray to her. Recently with advances in the physical sciences being made by Imperial advances in the physical sciences have revealed information and details that are providing a whole new dimension of interest in and reverence for this divine celestial object.
