Plague / Epidemic
Increased 'contact' with the Goblins in Morgranth resulted in a flulike virus that ravaged the fledgling New Verdon colonies and spread to Granmor, where it became a pandemic among the human populations. Hundreds of thousands would die, mostly in the North, setting up an advantage for Centralia to begin a long-awaited war against its ancient rivals.
Increased 'contact' with the Goblins in Morgranth resulted in a flulike virus that ravaged the fledgling New Verdon colonies. The virus was contained in the northern regions of the Verdonese Empire, killing approximately 20,000 Verdonese, 5,000 Idrionese, and 30,000 Gonewaldians. Barely any deaths occured in the Southern reaches of the Empire, though, as heavy travel restrictions and quarantines proved effective. The Centralian Alliance and the Northern Alliance fared badly, however. Nearly a hundred fifty thousand died across the Centralian alliance (almost triple the deaths per capita in the similar sized area affected within the Empire) and more than triple that amount in the North. The resulting population hit crippled the Third Northern Federation, and due to a couple decades of harsh winters over the next century their population had trouble recovering. The Centralians' population rebounded nicely, however, and this later opened up an opportunity for conquest they could not ignore.
