Session 29: Navigating The Undying Valley Report
General Summary
Our heroes start with the shattering of their 3rd orb. Inside is a worn, dazed dwarf, Uril Smeltmaster. Uril has no idea where or when he is. He was fighting on the battle field against Agrob, then next thing he knew he was here. He doesn't remember anything in that orb.
After a brief rest he's more than up for a fight. As are the players. They shatter the next orb and two huge snow golems emerge from a layer of snow on the ground. There's a big fight, one of them summons a baby one, and they breathe frost breath on them. The ground starts shaking. Orion throws a fireball which shatters the next orb. A floating, smirky lady emerges and flies into battle. After a bit of tussling, she banishes Reggie on the spot! Where did he go?? She summons a zombie T-Rex (that ends up being an illusion hah), but the players grind her down and manage to defeat her and the snowy duo.
With all the baddies gone, and the orbs shattered, the ground keep shaking and starts glooping like liquid. Our heroes get stuck, everyone fails their athletics checks and it gets harder and harder to get away. Each of them are sucked under into a tar-like liquid coming from the ground. Submerged and trapped, they're dragged down and down and down, until the liquid thins and they're released into deep water.
Each of them find their way to the surface and swim to the shore, which is lined with skulls. While recovering, an aarakocran floats down from the skies and lands next to them. Azeel says he's been sent from Tal'Atar but he doesn't know why. He join the party!
Uril somehow knows where he's going and feels a pull. After travelling a while, Joe and James start feeling some deep apathy, and Bearbera feels dread. This plane is having an effect. Suddenly, an inn appears right behind them. The House of Black Lanterns welcomes them with its gothic vibe. Inside are a few private Shadar-kai and a few well-to-do Goblins.
The players drink and rest in this plane-travelling inn. Orion does an identify on Uril and there are no spells on him, and he speaks to Yarol, who tells him to keep his business to himself. Orion then gets really drunk and tries speaking to the other patrons, all of which shrug him off. He goes to bed with everyone else.
In the morning the goblins and Shadar-Kai have already been dropped off and they are free to talk. Orion lost a bit of money from the night before. Uril wants to go 100 miles in a direction, so Yarol kicks the inn off that way. Joe wakes with an urge to steer clear from any sun today (or his skin might hurt) and Bearbera feels like she knows the exact layout of a dungeon somewhere on this plane, but no idea how.
A few hours later they arrive on the plains, with hoards of devils and demons fighting. We left it there at around midday.
