Session 31: To The Abyss Report

General Summary

Our heroes started this episode with the realisation of the importance of food and drink, and quickly scrambled around to make sure they had enough. Then Bearbera remembers she can make water.
They charged down to the edge of the River Styx and Beats of the Moon tosses a bone into the water and utters a few words. A few seconds pass of nothing only for some demons to break off from the main battle and race over toward them - there's a long way for them to go. The water rumbles and from depths a long canoe-like boat rises, controlled by the 9 foot boatman, but it's not Charon.
The tabaxi tries to barter with the boatman, but he's adamant that the fee is 2 souls for so many. Winter's Breath will give up his life for the cause. A fight kicks off as the demons reach them now. Beats of the Moon shouts for everyone to get on the boat. The boatman is absolutely astounded that they have the gal to get on without paying the fee and demands another soul.
Now is the time. Everyone disengages and makes their way onto the boat, the boatman now furious and trying to splash water onto them on the boat. Aziel was meant to give up his life, but didn't and just flew around panicking. James squares up with the boatman and then a fight kicks off with him! Someone pushes a lizardfolk into the river and the other one is killed too.
They defeat the boatman and steal his boat! The cheek of it. All demons back off at this point and the boat flows into the mouth of the rocks, and onwards to The Abyss. The cavern around them gets dark, and they travel for an hour. Aziel angers Beats of the Moon and she almost drops him in the water.
They arrive at Pazunia. The red sun beats down on the red sands with an intense heat. The boat naturally docks at a small jetty and everyone gets off. They pull the boat out and breaks half of it apart into some cover for later. Beats of the Moon points out them a few landmarks in the distance.
They say their fairwell and are on their way once more. An old man, thirsty and near death climbs a dune in front of them, and 3 large, winged creatures dip down and attack the party. They dispatch of them without much fuss, and we leave it there at midday on the first layer of the Abyss.
