Session 5: Onwards to Norcastle Report
General Summary
Our heroes started this week returning to surface from the dungeon that once belonged to the Duralli family, only to be greeted by Violet "Angel Eyes" Grinn and her cronies. As agents of The Tainted, they've been sent by Lady Bennellon to retrieve the loot and goods of the Duralli family. After some exchanged words and requests to hand over money and items found down below, Joe Smith calls her a thieving whore (TWICE!), kicking off a skirmish. She gets away after the fight starts going against her, as do her cronies, bar one.
They set off on their journey, with their newly acquired horse, Skybolt. What a good boy. On their journey they pass Gerald the hunter who gives some vague advice, a young green dragon demands some baked goods and baubles, a pair of boars run across the road while travelling at some speed and the horse and mule fall, and they're attacked by a load of blights in the dead of the night. After the battle, everyone seems to feel more powerful and good at fighting, which is nice. Joe has a weird moment where a face appears in a growing blood puddle that demands the soul it's owed, and it'll do something bad if it doesn't get it. James tells everyone about his book, "Spells n' Tha" (the "Tha" turns out to be sound financial advice).
The next morning and on the road again there's an EXPLOSION! Checking it out reveals two watery portals facing each other, one peering into a dark, dead, unsettling version of the same forest, a fairyland and bright sunny version in the other. From the friendly portal, a beautiful fairy lady beckons the party. Reginald obliges. Sweet, sweet, Reginald. It's obviously a hag. She attacks the party and starts scratching some fuckers. Then disappears! Where did she go? No-one knows. Then the groaning and shuffling starts. A pair of infected undead pour out of the dead-land portal, attacking Reginald and James, with the promise of maybe a hundred more to follow. Eek!
The hag reappears eventually and literally rips the head of Skybolt off. The party mostly keep battling the infected and are too slow to act, as the hag digs her spawny finger into Celeste's (the mule) throat and rips off the bottom jaw. Hank goes berserk (and Mia has a moment to herself), with light pouring out of his mouth, eyes, ears, and other holed bodily exits. With some help from Maku-Maku's fog cloud and some good ass-kicking, they fight off most of the infected before the portal closes. Maku-Maku is bitten on the head (as an elk) and his bite mark looks gnarly, and weepy. The hag is gone for good.
Maku-Maku, thinking quickly, cures Celeste and figures out how to heal up a face without a bottom jaw bone. Celeste is a monster. But she lives. The gang press on for the day, and eventually arrive at the eerie, ruined, broken east-Norcastle. Walking through the desolate town brings up nothing of interest, just the odd wolf or noise in the distance. The decide to rest for the evening, leaving the conundrum of crossing the river for the morning.

Character(s) interacted with
Our heroes had their first interaction with The Tainted, and of course a brief memory with Skybolt the horse, before his head was ripped off by a crone. Yuck.
