Session 9: Infiltrating The Tainted Report
General Summary
Previously, on D&D:
Hank went to the traders guild to cross his name off for a while. Was told he's need to pay 25gp to get back on it. Then he asked around town for someone to help Celeste. A "vet" in a back alley said he could do it for 250gp after some haggling, with a 50gp deposit.
Reginald spent all his spell slots and points helping people, and he did a bloody good job.
Our heroes started this week with a lovely catchup over a pint. They discussed the possibility of replacing Celeste's jaw with the jaw of a dragon, and loads of other adventurer-style hilarities. Hank leaves a quest on the board for someone to help cure/restore Celeste for 100gp. Then they set off for The Melting Manticore. Turning left at the Eldin Beastmender statue, they enter a rough neighbourhood. Some guy cusses and laughs at them, then challenges Reggie to a knife-edged arm wrestle, which Reggie wins after some divine help. The ruffian moves out of the way and lets them through to face up with Haruul, the jet-black minotaur. They must pay 15gp, so they do after some arguing. He hands them cotton plugs. There are harpies wailing, people wandering like zombies, snakes with knives of veg, a crispy spider meal, and hookahs at a handful of tables. How exotic. The PCs are shown to their table by the deaf barman and offered a hookah and a beverage. They all have drinks. Some of them wander around and Joe tries to hit on the lady poking the harpies. James brings him back to the table after 2 blade-wielding citizens stand behind Joe. They spot Farrell and buy some drinks to be sent over! After a little dance over, he offers them a seat and his men standing imposingly behind them. They talk about all sorts - apologies, Angelo, Angel Eyes (she does exist), and a group of annoying adventurers in town. The PCs say they want to work with them, but he refuses. The party leave and go back to dancing. Hank left Angelo there as a centipede and he listens to the convo - something about "it almost being finished" and something about a mole too. Ooooh what are they up to?! James attempts to convince one of the bladed fellas to let them in on their secret. He tells him to ask Jiolli about the "prickled lilly", and of course it's an inside joke/insult and she fucking smacks him, if not for him casting shield! FIGHT!! There's a massive battle, where the PCs try to escape the bar without fighting and they very almost do if it wasn't for Maku Maku deciding to cast Hold Person, so the fighting erupts. They manage to kill one archer and Angelo releases the Harpies from the cage, who attack Jiolli and her gang. This time they manage to escape and run from the tavern to wolf whistles and heckles from the streets outside. They settle down in the The King's Cellar, a warm and comfortable tavern near the city wall. They decide to let bat-Angelo go scope out Farrell and learn where he lives. They all head back to Castle Ardinham for a nice kip, and Angelo returns some time in the middle of the night.
