The Merry Man

The Merry Man appears when a player rolls 100 on a d100 after a critical hit.

Summary

When the Merry Man appears (which is not as often as most would wish, unfortunately), he is generally carrying a large sack labelled "Decks & Dice". Whenever he reaches into the sack, he always pulls out whatever the adventurer or adventuring party needs most at that time, and gives it to them with no qualms. Once the item has been used, the Merry Man says "I'll see ya later, homey" and retreats into the multiverse once again, seeking another group of adventurers to aid.   The Merry Man is a chaotic good extra-planar entity. Existing outside of the planes, and almost outside of the multiverse itself, the Merry Man can not be harmed or destroyed, and does not age. He is immune to all conditions and damage.

Historical Basis

The Merry Man is said to have once been a human merchant from an unknown world on the Material Plane. He was renowned in his area for selling the best adventuring supplies, magic components, and all sorts of wonderful toys and games for children. He was loved by all far and wide for his pleasant demeanor, and sense of childlike wonder and merriment. The merchant was, unfortunately, dealt a foul lot in life. Shortly after getting married, and resolving to start a family, the Gods grew jealous of how happy and carefree the he was, and struck him with an illness that slowly took his life.   But the Gods only have power over their realm, and there are greater forces at work in the multiverse. Some unknown force of overwhelming goodness took the merchant's spirit, and breathed life into it once again.   Though he could never again walk the world he hailed from, the merchant found he was now able to visit an infinite number of worlds, any time he wished. He took on the name The Merry Man, forgetting his original moniker, but feeling that Merry Man was close, and now travels across the planes and realms of the multiverse, aiding adventurers when they need it most.
