The mysteries of the Planes
A trip to Velen.
- Whilst there, the party witness a ghost walking down the street and into a tavern.
- The locals are indifferent to the ghosts, it is a common local occurrence and they do no harm.
- The heroes had recovered the corpse of Zack's marine squad mate, Charles Woodhall (Chunk), from the Sahuagin Hammerhead colony.
- Malenia offers to perform a seance to ask him about the Sea Devil's plans.
- They gather some useful information from him
- However, during the seance other planes start to bleed through into the material plane, with each Guild member present seeing something personal to them. Some empowering, other terrifying.
- Malenia informs the others that her ritual should not have had this effect, only the target should have been affected, and only to enable them to speak.
- During the Battle of Umberlee rising, the ritual the Sahuagin performed enabled the chaotic goddess of the sea to briefly travel to the material plane from her abyssal domain
- Malenia cast the Banishment spell on the Sahuagin Manta Lord, and an un-named sorcerer cast the same spell on Dr Egnarts. Both times, rather than transporting the target to a harmless demi-plane, they were instead teleported to the Border Ethereal. For Dr Egnarts this lasted longer that the usual spell duration.
- Malenia believes she is the cause of the bizarre planar activity, having performed the seance on Charles and banished the Manta Lord. The others try to reassure her, as she was not present when Dr. Egnarts was banished.
- Parker and Maxaris perform an experiment to prove Malania is not responsible. When Maxaris banishes Parker he is transported to the Border Ethereal just like the others.
- The Great Reader Sylvira Savikas, a tiefling archmage with expertise in the Great Wheel of the planes, performed a ritual to check connections from the material plane to the other planes. She confirmed the boundaries are thinner and stated this phenomenon is practically unheard of in history.
- While Brother Fergal, the head cleric of the Temple of Kelemvor, was raising Terroth Snowscale, a Radiant Knight and paladin of Lathander, he saw into Kelevmor’s realm for the first time. In all his years he had never seen through to another plane.
- During the funeral of Fergal, Bertrand and Theo Rushmire the barriers to the Fugue plane were removed and everyone became present at both the graveside and Kelemvor's throne room in the Crystal Spire at the same time.
- Whilst Parker was wandering through the mountains and woods north of Greyhaven, dense clouds began to roll down the slopes and the area around him began to fade, revealing a cloud strewn plane which overlapped with the material. A pair of air elementals emerged from the mists and attacked him.
- Great Reader Sylvira Savikas shared the details of the planar tuning fork for Pazunia, the top most layer of the Abyss. But also informed you that tuning forks can only be attuned in the actual plane, hence why they are so hard to come by.
- Whilst the Protectors were travelling through the Underdark, the area around them became charged with a strange kind of energy. This started as a tingle and escalating to become almost unbearable.
- Tex called out to Maxaris stating something bad is happening and he is scared.
- Suddenly, there was a pulse of energy from an unknown source.
- Looking around their vision started to glitch, as if two images were overlapping. The walls of reality started to give way, as the view all around became translucent. They became surrounded by a chaotic swirling oily pattern, which was then replaced by a raging maelstrom of elemental and otherworldly substances.
- One by one planes overlapped with the material plane, providing views of volcanic mountains, an endless ocean, billowing clouds, towering chasms, enveloping grey fog, a dream like silver void, soul rending darkness, and glittering vibrant flora and fauna.
- The planes brought with them winds of fire, crushing waves, lightning storms, jagged rock falls, ghostly necrotic tendrils, bewildering mental assaults, overwhelming loss, and intrusions into the heroes identity.
- They weathered the maelstrom and as the raging waves of energy from the various planes subsided, ther were once again surrounded by the oily swirling chaos, which then itself faded to leave them stood bewildered in the material plane.
