The Witch’s Mark and the Cauldron of Blight

During the events of the first Days of Blight (DB1) the hag used the Cauldron of Blight to Night Haunt the party. During that haunting, the hag may have chosen one of the party members to “mark”. The mark resembles a large jet black splattering of ink starting from the base of the skull and running down to the center of the back. A humanoid who has been marked in this way cannot be shielded, using protection from evil or magic circle, from any Night Hag’s Nightmare Haunting.

The mark also allows the hags to scry on the victim at will through a Cauldron of Blight. Although the mark does not allow the hags to know the exact location of the target, they can see the target’s surroundings. Lastly, if the target is within a mile of the Tree of Decay, the hags may use Dominate Person on a marked target (DC16 Wisdom Save) with a 10 minute duration. Th is action can be repeated so long as the target is within range of the Tree of Decay.

If a party member has not been marked, the hags, upon learning of the party’s arrival, will attempt to mark a party member using the Cauldron of Blight found at the Tree of Decay (Chapter 8). As best as they are able, the hags will attempt to target individuals who they believe have weaker wisdom saving throws to ensure success.
