Armies of Irongate
The Free City of Irongate is considered the lynchpin of the Iron League. Well fortified, surrounded by rough terrain, with stores bulging with grain, and the city itself strategically placed, Irongate is the ultimate bastion which the members of the League may expect to use as a redoubt in case of catastrophe.
As of the end of CY 578, Irongate has the following troops available:
• Border guards
(stationed along the northeast border with South Province)• 1,000 light infantry with spear and shield
• 1,000 light infantry with hand weapon and sling (hillmen)
• Marines
(assigned to ships, but able to be mustered on land if needed), all medium infantry with hand weapons, wearing chainmail and shield• Irongate: 750 marines
• Northanchor: 250 marines
• 2,000 heavy infantry with pole arms, wearing plate and shield (militia, excellent quality)
In addition, around 3,000 gnomes and dwarves from the Headlands in Onnwal have been committed to the defense of the city, but it is confirmed that they will not take any active role in the broader human wars plaguing the region. What their response would be if the kingdom of the Iron Hills should be invaded is still unknown. These troops consist of the following, and all can be considered to be of elite status:
• 800 heavy dwarven infantry with pole arms, wearing plate or chainmail and shield
• 500 medium dwarven infantry with sword or axe, wearing chainmail and shield
• 600 light dwarven infantry with short bows
• 200 light dwarven infantry with crossbows
• 350 heavy gnome infantry with spears
• 450 medium gnome infantry with hand weapons
• 100 light gnome infantry with sling and short sword (skirmishers)
If pre-renaissance medieval Italian miniatures can be found, those would be ideal for the human troops of Irongate. Otherwise regular Feudal era miniatures would be appropriate. Gnome and dwarf miniatures are not too difficult to find, but in some scales (such as 15mm) the selection might be limited, particularly for gnomes.
