Armies of Iuz

The Lord of Evil is putting plans within plans into motion, and from his throne in Dorakaa schemes to not only reclaim the lands to the southeast that were lost and fight the hated elves of the Vesve forest, but to put the whole of the Flanaess under his heel. Uruz and other humanoid breed in their thousands, swelling the cambion’s armies. Renegades from the Bandit Kingdoms and across the Flanaess have swarmed to his banner, hoping for loot and rapine.

The precise events of CY 577-578 are related elsewhere, but as of the end of that year, the armies of Iuz stand as follows. It should be noted that in almost all cases, evil humans and demi-humans are the leaders of humanoid forces.

The remnants of the Host of the Northern Marches, under the command of Lord Choldraf (C14) and reeling from the disastrous retreat following the siege of Eru Tovar and the Battle of Blackwater Bend, have retreated to fortified positions in the Howling Hills, and are headquartered in

Kendragund:

• 1,400 heavy cavalry with hand weapons, wearing chainmail and shield

• 700 light cavalry with spear and shield

• 1,400 medium infantry with crossbows, wearing chainmail

• 1,000 heavy infantry with swords, wearing chainmail and shield

• 560 light goblin infantry (scouts)

• 280 light xvart infantry (scouts)

• 1,680 heavy orcish infantry with various weapons, wearing plate

• 1,120 heavy hobgoblin infantry with various weapons, wearing plate

• 1,820 mixed humanoid light infantry (norkers, gnolls, flinds, ogrillons, bugbears, and ogres)

In addition, a large number of deserters from the siege continue to trickle back into the Howling Hills, and will undoubtedly be re-integrated back into the armies of Iuz, after a large percentage have examples for the rest. been made

Iuz’s forces in the Vesve

have proven to be the most successful by far. Humanoids have conquered most of the great forest, and seem primed to raid into Furyondy itself, using the Vesve as a base. The elves, humans, and other demi-humans of Highfolk and Veluna have retained control of the southwestern portion of the woodland, but the rest belongs to Iuz or other evil humanoid tribes. Humanoid troops number as follows:

• 5,550 orcs

• 1,500 light infantry with hand weapons

• 2,250 medium infantry with hand weapons or pole arms

• 900 medium infantry with crossbows

• 600 heavy infantry with hand weapons

• 300 heavy infantry with pole arms

• 5,000 hobgoblins

• 500 light infantry with longbows

• 2,500 medium infantry with hand weapons, wearing scale

• 2,000 heavy infantry with pole arms, wearing plate

• 3,000 gnolls

• 450 medium infantry with longbows

• 1,000 light infantry with spears and shields

• 1,250 medium infantry with hand weapons and shields

• 300 light cavalry with spears, riding hyenadons

Most of Iuz’s human troops are in the army of the north, with the remainder being quartered in Dorakaa. In addition, a large number of orcs and other humanoids are garrisoned in the castles immediately north of the city and along the shore of Whystil Lake, where they also form a defense against the Horned Society, should they entertain ideas of crossing the Opicm river.

This

Host of the Southern Marches

consists of the following:

• 700 light cavalry with spears • 300 medium infantry with swords, wearing chainmail and shield • 500 light goblin infantry (scouts)

• 500 light xvart infantry (scouts)

• 7,400 orcs

• 2,000 light infantry with various weapons

• 3,000 medium infantry with hand weapons or pole arms

•1,200 medium infantry with crossbows

• 800 heavy infantry with hand weapons

• 400 heavy infantry with pole arms

• 2,400 hobgoblins

• 300 light infantry with longbows

• 900 medium infantry with hand weapons, wearing scale

• 1,200 heavy infantry with pole arms, wearing plate

• 1,600 other humanoids (norkers gnolls, flinds, ogrillons, bugbears, and ogres), all light infantry

Any medieval-era miniatures will suffice for the evil humans who serve Iuz. Humanoid miniatures can be found by a number of different manufacturers, and hard-to-find types (such as xvarts and norkers) can be devised by getting goblins or similar troops from different lines, and applying the applicable paint jobs. Since there can be quite a bit of variation from manufacturer to manufacturer when it comes to humanoid miniatures, this presents a simple and effective means of bringing rarer humanoid types to the tabletop.
