Armies of Sunndi

The army of Sunndi is the largest in the Iron League, and with good reason. With borders on Medegia, South Province, and the lands of the Overking himself, threats from the northern quarter abound. Add to that the constant influx of monsters and humanoids from the Great Swamp, and Sunndi’s relative militarization seems reasonable.

Most of the Count’s armies, however, have been committed elsewhere. Thousands of humans, elves, halflings, and gnomes have been posted to Idee, leaving only the following troops in Sunndi itself. It should be noted that the troops in the Rieuwood, Glorioles, and Hestmark Highlands are committed to the defense of those regions, and thus cannot be used in a general strike against Medegia or some other target.

Most of the remaining troops are based in the capital Pitchfield, and are intended as a general reserve force to be used to reinforce any border region in need:

• 500 medium infantry with bardiches, wearing chainmail

• 300 light cavalry with spear and shield

A force is also stationed in the towns of Calgen and Eyedrinn,

to keep an eye on the Vast Swamp and react to threats from that quarter:

• 500 light infantry with crossbows, wearing padded armor

• 200 light cavalry with spear and shield

The Glorioles and Hestmark Highlands

are protected by the following mixed force (other troops from the region have been sent to Idee):

900 medium infantry with morning stars, wearing chainmail and shield (hillmen)

750 light infantry with slings (hillmen)

500 heavy dwarven infantry with axes or pole-axes, wearing chainmail and shields

900 medium dwarven infantry with swords or axes, wearing chainmail and shield

600 light dwarven infantry with short bows

Newkeep

(near the border where the Rieuwood meets the Hollow Highlands) has a large force from the Hestmark Highlands and Glorioles, which is intended to be sent west or north to assist Idee against South Province:

• 300 light halfling infantry with short bows

• 600 medium halfling infantry with spear, wearing studded leather and shield

• 200 light gnome infantry with slings (skirmishers)

• 500 medium gnome infantry with hand weapons and shields

• 1,000 heavy dwarf infantry with axes or pole-axes, wearing chainmail and shield

• 500 light dwarf infantry with shortbows

In addition,

militia units

can be raised, and have been brought to alert so they can be marshalled in but a short time:

• 1,500 medium infantry with morning stars, wearing chainmail and shield (hillmen)

• 750 light infantry with slings (hillmen)

• 3,750 medium infantry with bardiches, wearing chainmail

If pre-Renaissance Italian figures are available, they would be suitable for the army of Sunndi. Otherwise, regular Feudal era miniatures would suffice.
