Armies of the Paynims

It is well for the rest of the Baklunish world that the tribes of the Paynims are fractious and plagued by constant in-fighting. With their seemingly endless numbers, they would sweep the more civilized Baklunish nations before them, were they ever unified and bent on conquest.

There are eleven principal tribes among the Paynims, each of which have up to six smaller subject tribes. For details on the various relationships between these tribes, see the article “Peregrinations of the Paynims” in the the Flocktime 580 issue of Dragonne).

Large numbers of Paynim mercenaries can be found throughout the Baklunish Basin, and even beyond into the Flanaess, Orcreich, and Celestial Imperium. Such troops can be up to 500 strong, with 75% of them wielding short bow and scimitar, while the remainder wield lance and either flail or mace, depending on their tribe of origin.

As of CY 578, these larger tribes had the following forces available (all are light cavalry):

• Kilali: 16,700 warriors

• 12,525 with short bow and scimitar

• 4,175 with lance and flail

• Hekrodeen: 13,450 warriors
