Armies of the Valley of the Mage

The Mage of the Vale

is famously reclusive, and has little dealings with the outside world. This seclusion is enforced by the elves of the Valley, colloquially known as Valley Elves, as well as the many gnomes who also dwell within. The few human “tree people” in the Valley are also used for defense, but the elves form the bulk of the army. His forces not only patrol the entrance to the valley, but penetrate into the Dim Forest to proactively deter the curious.

As of CY 578, the Mage of the Valley commands the following forces. Although troop levels are small, they are bolstered by an abundance of magic-users, illusionists, and animals either trained or under the influence of animal friendship or similar spells.

• Valley Elves

• 200 light infantry with swords and longbows, wearing chainmail and shield

• 300 light infantry with swords and longbows, wearing studded leather

• Gnomes

• 180 light infantry with swords, wearing chainmail

• 110 light infantry with spears, wearing chainmail

• Humans (“tree people”)

• 140 light infantry with bow and sword, unarmored

While elf and gnome miniatures are easy enough to come by in both 25/28mm and 15mm, the Tree People of the Valley present an interesting challenge in terms of acquiring suitable miniature figures.

Because of their dress, figures from Biblical ranges such as Libyans or Bedouins might be found to serve, but care should be taken not to select figures that look too civilized. The tree people wear skins and have a primitive appearance, although they use weapons gifted to them by the Laird of the Domain.
